You!

We've often heard the phrase that "public speaking is a person's greatest fear," with "death" supposedly ranking second.

Is that true for you?

If not, and something else tops your list of greatest fears, please comment.

It was for years. Until I started teaching. That's when I learned a trick. You see, just like if you're in a play and on stage (which I LOVE!), it shouldn't be you behind that podium. You're playing a role, a part, and it's that character who should be looking out at that audience, not you. If it's you...you've already screwed up.

    Lol. I'm in Forensics.

    -4 third place medals, Congress.
    -2 third place medals, Extemp.
    -1 second place medal, Duo.

I've been speaking publicly for competition the last 3 years of my life.

And yeah, death would be my biggest fear.

Not a big fear, but it is something I am having to more
and more. I just had my 18 month anniversary of being
seizure free after my brain surgery and now I am heading
for Atlanta Georgia for some Epilepsy Advocacy work and
will be publicly speaking alot. I have also started singing
solo in large groups and I still get sweaty palms every time.

I pretty much was terrified up until I graduated college. I was pushed into being an MC for a talent show for my Cruise Manager Job...and I ended up loving it! I continued as a Cruise Manager for 4 years and loved every minute of it!

I am afraid of something bad happening to someone that I love more than any fear I have for myself. If you are afraid to speak in public, the best thing to do is educate yourself in the subject you are to speak about. Inform yourself so much that you can not run out of things to say. Remember anecdotes and personal stories etc. these will put you at ease and the listener will feel that you are really talking to them so they are more apt to listen!
