Is love supposed to hurt like this?

I said something to the man I've been talking to for a while. It's a long distance relationship. I said that I don't think we'll meet...I was depressed on Tuesday...So I said the wrong thing...I feel so terrible. Why does love hurt so much? I love him dearly...I never met a man like him...I apologized but I want to cry...I miss him terribly...What do I do?
