It is amazing how our wonderful government and society says how wrong it is to kill, but you bring war into the equation and suddenly it is okay..IT IS STILL KILLING!

i think so...but if it is, i strongly believe the weight of sin rests more on the politicians who called the war than on the soldiers on the line

i know i killed at least 200 people in nam. 7/8 of them i never saw until we weNT in the bush. i was there at the insistance of my government, like any other soldier, at any other time, and thought i was doin a moral duty. i wasn't, so i killed until it became a frenzy. i only realized my folly years later when i got out and knew then that it wasn't necessary, and that i wasn't fighting for any real freedom. i am so ashamed and surprised that i never committed suicide for the murders i did there. please don't thank me for my service either; because i won't say thanks.

I don't believe in sin. It is right or wrong. For me it's kill or be killed. I see this as a problem of correspondence bias, because killing someone when he has a knife to your throat doesn't make you a bad person even if you did put yourself there. It's wrong in that you're killing a person with a family, but It's OK because he was going to take you away from your family. Both of you kind of agreed by signing onto a war to die if it happened.

As a former Marine I know you should never feel great about killing except realize it is a needed evil to preserve your life and your buddies. It is more about you and your buddies than anything else at the time. You may enjoy a victory but it will always haunt you!

We are allegedly born with free will and unfortunately in many that includes choosing sin and trumps morality and conscientiousness on so many levels, especially war. This could be debated in so many ways. Good post!
  • Muskoka HipJipC 2012/07/09 01:01:50

We are born with a mind and the ability to use it along with all the creature on this earth. We all have the ability to make decisions and choices any time we chose to and thatg includes all the animals on this planet. Free will is a creation of christianity and has no meaning what do ever.

Every religion has a different idea of what sin is. And sin alon applies to those who are belong to a specific religion.

I said "allegedly", I made no proclamations. This is why I included that it can be debated in many ways.

Free will is always related to religion. Outside that it has no context.

It's simple, it's a sin to kill someone. It doesn't have all these regulations in the bible that says its ok to kill for self defense or ect. I'm not religious so I don't believe in it, but it's what it states. Although its obviously the only way to survive in war. If your not killing someone then they're killing you. Why should you worry if it's a sin or not, you're fighting for our country an deserve respect.

i use to tink that when i was a little kid. but then my uncle told me that in the bible it says an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth. which means you cant ciil a million people just because one persson died but if someone shoots or something you can shoot back.

what if its "unkown" like you are in the air force and drop a bomb and you dont know where it goes or what exactly happened, but just following the orders from superiors in accordance to the bibles statement of "following the laws of the land?"

Listen very closely. To murder is to kill and have a truly emotional response to it. To kill in war is a killing out of duty and a defense of country. The Murder is sin. To kill in battle is more forgivable. That being said I have known soldiers who prayed to be forgiven each day as they were in the theater of Combat.... They came home in a better space than a lot of comrades

Supposedly ,we fight for our nation, and no, it's not ,it's really more like self preservation .Unfortunately ,our pols have put us in bad places for causes that didn't benifit ,or protect outr country ,such as Nam ,and Iraq ,Was there for Nam ,and I stand in support of my fellow veta ,and current military doing the work they were ordered to do .I understand that since the draft ended ,that many don't ubderstand the oath one takes to follow orders in the cause of our country, but when you take that oath ,you put yourself in the govs service ,and that's that.

Is killing just wrong in general? For Christians their code is "thou shalt not kill" I don't see any "exceptions" to that listed in their little book of gods. Me? I am not a christian or other cult member and killing is a matter of conscience and choice. Mine!

I do not believe in the concept of sin. That said, killing is wrong unless done in defense of life, liberty or the fruits of ones labor.
