Guns have been in the home since the founding of this country. Guns should not be unsecured but it's because we have kids that there is an even greater need to be able to defend our family and protect our homes. There are too many home invasions to even think of EVERYONE residing in an unprotected house. If criminals were certain that no one had a gun I shudder to think how many homes would be broken into by criminals WITH GUNS!

I think they're ok for protection but I would definitely make sure the kids had no way to get to it.

Common Sense(not so common anymore it seems) and education. If you take your kids shooting, they won't be so intrigued when they see one. Gun safety ed. is better than ignorance. In my town, I'd estimate 85% of households have guns, yet gun crimes are virtually non exsistent. See any correlation??

The whole time my children were little, I had a gun for personal protection. There was no man in the house. It was my Job to make sure my boys and I stayed safe. We always lived out in the country so help may take to long to get there. My boys never even knew I had it . Thats the first rule. The second rule is that you put in a safe place with a trigger lock when you r not taking it with you. I also had a sycho ex-husband that prompted me to carry one.

If you have firearms in your home then you need to keep them locked up in a gun case!!!!! So no children can get to them!!!

I think it is wrong to have a gun in the house with or without children in the home. No gun, no anger, no deaths.

Remember - The Nazis rounded up all the guns/weapons and the dogs
    - then they were FREE to just take over! They ID'd their "so-called"
undesirables, so the public wasn't so surprised when they were also
rounded up and exterminated. History WILL repeat itself - if allowed!
Respect your rights - PROTECT your rights! Protect the Constitution -
VOTE - and stop trying to be everyone's NANNY!!! You can't protect
everyone from everything - life shouldn't be safe - or "man" will look
    for dangerous challenges.

Kids allways intrested in things. Thats natural, and the more you try to lock the gun away it´s getting more intressting to the kids.
So you need a safe and if you put the gun in the safe
you not have the time to get it out if you´re in trouble ...
    So it can´t protect you....
For that, no guns in your house if you´ve got kids...

sorry but what if someone came into your house and you had no protection because your husband was gone and the only thing you had was a gun. Your telling me that you wouldn't shoot someone before they killed your kid....I wouldd if they were harming my family.

You said to hide the gun(s). You have to teach responsibility and the correct use of a gun. If you hide a gun from your kids they'll find it, and they will, and then they'll be curious and stand a better chance of getting hurt or worse.
  • Mare33 JESSJES... 2008/02/18 22:14:31

And you can´t tell me that you´ve got
in that situation without been an profi(mean Cop, Soldier and so on)
the nerve to get your gun ... and hit without been killed
    And a second argument:
If somebody comes to my house and I try to get my gun I would get killed.
But if that same a$$ came to my house and I´m stay and don´t try to defends myself I´ve got a Chance to alive. Only a chance but a chance.

But I must say that this is on of the things that make the difernce in our education...
In Germany it´s not allowed to have guns, just profi´s and persons with special permissions. And to get these permissions is difficult...
And in the USA you´ve got the right to have guns in your law...
So for you it´s natural to have guns, for me it´s not natural

The guns should be locked up. The kids should be taught to value human life and when they are old enough, they should be taught gun safety and how to shoot.

I think it is extremely important to arm yourself... even if you live in a ‘safe’ neighborhood. There have been occasions where people have come up to our door and tried to get in (to no avail, we keep the door securely locked at all times) and I would hate to think that if someone managed to get in, I would be totally unable to protect my family from danger. We DO keep the gun on a high shelf in the closet, but just the same, every person in my family has been taught at a young age how to handle guns safely. We see the gun as our friend, and a necessity... it just takes a little bit of responsibility from everyone to keep things safe.

you should maybe keep the gun with you.. I have heard too many stories of kids accidentally taking the gun and shooting themselves or they're friends.. or some poor messed up kid taking the gun to school to shoot up some mean teachers or bullies..etc..when will we learn..

It's not bad if the children don't know where it is and can't reach it... I'm from Montana, and it's a place where there are sometimes ten or twenty in the house and there are dead dear and antalope hanging on the wall....
