It's not like you were going to read the entire book while you're just standing there! If that's what you are going to do, why do't you go to the library???
I think its okay if a person reads a chapter of a book to decide if its worth buying. But if a person comes in every day to read the same book, that would be stealing. If a person would do that, why not just go to the library and borrow the book.
I've wondered about this myself. I was in a Borders and started reading the latest Cosmo and I felt awkward. I was thinking people were watching me and thinking I'm cheap. I also thought the employees would ask me to leave. So if I do read, its only for a few minutes.
No, if it was stealing, then all the books would be wrapped up in plastic. If that is opened, then THAT's stealing. If it isn't, I don't see anything wrong with reading the books.
one of my teachers in elementary school would do that...this was before boarders and barnes and noble with their lounging areas...this bookstore near where i lived had a coffee shop and this teacher would find books that looked interesting and sit in the coffee shop and read the first chapter to see if she really wanted to buy it....that makes sense to me..but if someone were reading books in their entirety at a bookstore ...i would say...maybe go to the library insetead..at least its still free and you can read them anywhere:}
I've always thought it was a little weird sitting around in a book store and reading a book while customers mill around you. Not because of the reading, just because it's kind of like sitting on a lawn chair in the deli aisle of a grocery store and enjoying a pastrami on rye. Weird.
But the book stores provide the chairs and encourage the reading, so why not?
*Sarcasm alert* Yeah, you are totally stealing. You are like reading words that you haven't even paid for...you know you shouldn't even open the book until you've paid for it.
LOL...you thief! I'm going to like snitch on you and like...save the day.
Hehehehe.
No, you aren't stealing. Why did you think that?
i hope its not considered stealing cuz i do it all the time i read mags, books i play with the toys in the toy section, play video games, txt and call ppl on the phones they have on display, take pics with the cameras they have on display
When I'm out shopping, I always visit at least one bookstore! I love them! I always look at, and read a little in the books before I (maybe) buy them, but I never read a lot in the store. If you want to read a book, you should buy it or go to the library! I suppose other people are like me, I wouldn't want to buy a book, and pay the full price for it, if it didn't look new anymore, so I make sure that I'm very careful when I look at them.
I've always debated this to myself while I go shopping for books. There ARE a lot of sitting areas at the book store...however, I never go there to read a book that I bring with me. Then I look around at people reading and I have no idea if they bought the books or not.
But if you think about it, it's a book STORE, not a library where books are free. So, if you sit there, read the whole book, and put it back, then it's stealing. If you read a little bit of the book to see if you find it interesting or not & put it back or buy it, then you're fine. The book store has to make money! So if every single person read there instead of buying the books, then the book store would go out of business. It IS stealing. It's similar to going to a deli and trying all the samples because you're hungry, but not buying a single thing.
^_^

if its a magazine, *dont read the whole thing! just read the cover!*
It's not bad if you do FEW times!
LOL...you thief! I'm going to like snitch on you and like...save the day.
