It's not that it must be a 'white pope' it's that it has been white popes. And even then, they've been European - so like, tanned, not white white necessarily. It's about the best man for the job, not the colour of their skin.

What difference does it make? Since it is based on many factors, none of which are race based, and there are hardly any blacks in the Catholic hierarchy, I can't see how it would be considered strange to have had only white or "brown" Popes. Catholics are not racist, blacks are just not overwhelmingly drawn to Catholicism, and non Catholics don't have a dog in the fight and therefore nothing to say about it.

There were two from Africa before the Vatican was the central Government of the Church, but it is not completely clear if they were racially black or one of the brown Arab varieties of human beings. Arguments have been made either way.

Who cares? White, Black, Hispanic or even Chinese. It's all about faith. Christ was a Jew and he is worshiped by Christians. I can also guarantee the Christ was not pale skinned like his pictures.

Hmmm, there are plenty of pale skinned Jews, even some with green eyes. The reason Jesus is worshiped by CHRSTians, is because He was Christ! He was a Jew by human birth, but He radically changed the rules and was rejected by the Jews....and killed. But yeah, it does not matter at all what race or nationality the Pope is. I feel like if they had always been black, it still would not make it "time" to have a white one. Just silly.

OMG PEOPLE get it through your thick skulls! This is why there is still racism in this country b/c everyone's worried about who they're going to hire based on the color of their skin, and not by their qualifications for that job! It's reverse racism, being overly nice to minority's just because of what color their skin is. That is not equality and that is definitely not what Dr King preached about.
