I think it depends on the person, and how much thought.
When my daughter was too young to have a job, she used to use her own money in the dollar store to get people gifts for Christmas, Birthday's etc.
My older sister who has a rather lucrative job, will buy someone a card on her way to any celebration.
Is it really the thought that counts?

Even if it's something small; whoever the receiver of the gift is will know that you were thinking of them.
That one is the worst excuse on the planet!
It's the person that counts.

but if you were thinking of doing a bad thing and then you back off it doesnt count...or at last thats what i think :D
"I thought about buying you an X-Box... but then I said 'screw it' and got myself some new shoes instead."
