If the fact that I try to preserve as much money as possible is a deal breaker, I probably won't want to go on another date with that person again either.

What if the person you are with is truly a wonderful person and living on a very tight budget? Now, IF the person said, "Hey, I have this coupon and you can only get what is on the coupon," then there is an issue. However, what if s/he just slips the coupon - if it applies - in when paying the check?

I wouldn't personally use a coupon like that, even if I were with the person for a while. Even if I have a gift card and use it, They're still getting a free freaking meal. And looking down the road knowing your economic boundaries becomes an asset in a relationship, a lot less fighting about who spends too much.

Oh, just as an FYI, my husband used coupons when we were dating and we were so poor he couldn't afford the engagement ring he knew I really wanted... On our 14th anniversary he took me to a diamond show and got me the ring of my dreams - all because he had been frugal for all those years. He saved for me. I won't tell you what he spent on my ring, but suffice it to say that it is now worth more than the homes in our area. Be thankful if the person who takes you on a date is frugal yet treats you well... ; )
