Call me old fashioned, but I don't think cell phones should be allowed to be ON in class, most less used in class. It should be against the rules much as not passing was "in my day."

As a teacher , seeing kids texting in class just tells me that the students are not paying attention and it is quite rude. I just take the phones... put them in my drawer which I jokingly refer to as "purgatory" and there the electronics "wait" until the end of class. :)

You are there to learn. Keep texting and watch someone else get the better job because they learned more by not texting!

Sorry No cell phones on in school as far as I am concerned, should have to leave them in their locker. Text is talking, just like passing notes, and that was not acceptable behavior when I was in school, even though 30 yrs have passed I am willing to bet that has not changed. Besides it is just one more way for students to cheat, we had Walkman,,asked if we could listen to them while taking a test...sure no problem, only thing was the tape had the answers to the test, no music! If there is an emergency you are in school were you should be, and your parents can always get to you that way. text in class and it is for reasons like this that phones should not be allowed in school to begin with!

For starters it's very rude. Also, I could say its ok in an emergency. What the hell is an emergency to a teenager?

Um... Period!!! What teenage girl wants to go to the bathroom realize she's started, having to walk all the way to the classroom, standing in front of the class and saying 'I started my period'!? NONE!! I think that classifies as an emergency. Unless dead egg blood is ok to have on the back of your pants all day. I'd rather be able to shoot my mom a text than go through the mortification of stains and being ridiculed. I think ive made my point.

Is that why some of our youth are airheads? Spending less time paying attention.

Not unless it's an emergency. It's distracting to the students themselves and others.

I texted in class all through school and graduated 10th in my class. If I was a teacher I wouldn't care as long as it's not disrupting others. Its ur grade

Yes and no... during an emergency they should be paying attention to what's going on around them.

Can't really justify a need for it, not an emergency even. There are ways to get a hold of people if needed.

Only during a zombie attack, or some nutjob shooting people up in the school would texting during class be permitted...

No, it distracts the kids and as such, makes them learn less and at a slower rate. Besides there is no reason to text in class instead of waiting for lunch, other than a great big rare emergency (in which case parents can just contact the school or vice versa to get a quick message sent).

As long as it doesn't disrupt the learning of others without their permission, it's acceptable. It may be incredibly stupid, as it prevents one from learning the class material, but stupid and wrong are two completely different things.

see if you text less and learn more, you would be able to spell basic words correctly.

though i should have clicked only in an emergency. however, if its still something of importance, which is the only reason i text in class, but not necessarily an emergency, i dont see a problem with it, but im also really good at paying attention with my ears, so i dont miss anything anyways. i only miss information when i sleep in class

the public education system's screwing our kids over anyway; texting friends during class would be more productive than the vast majority of lesson plans.

your priority, when you are in class, is to learn, not to be chatting with your friends... or worse, cheating by text
