Call me old fashioned, but I don't think cell phones should be allowed to be ON in class, most less used in class. It should be against the rules much as not passing was "in my day."

You are the exception and I can see that you must have had Wonderful Parents that helped you and motivated you.

That is wonderful. But that is not the case Nationally when you look at SAT and ACT Scores, and the united States is falling behind in math and science

Again... WOW I struggled with math but loved Science, and still graduated from College and went on to the university...and now after the Military, Retired and loving it.

Not all of the students like Blaxican need their parents to help them...

That is true to some extent.... BUT REMEMBER: like Obama said to Small Business Owners

YOU DID NOT BUILD IT ON YOU'RE OWN!

Kids all need direction growing up and motivation at some point in their young life.

When you talk to someone who plays Classical music and plays the piano, it was some dad or some mom that got him started and forced him to practice to become what he is.

Most kids left to their own devices will not on their own do their home work unless their parents check on them faithfully... Not all are like that.....

    BUT YOU GET THE POINT

In my school, we have a study hall period. If you're finished with homework, I think you should be able to text then. Other than that, not acceptable.

if you're a good student, texting is out of the question.......only in an emergency. that's why in this respect, technology is getting worse!

I'm a good student but I text during class. I don't think whether you text or not determines your mark.

I agree. I get 90% or higher in almost all my classes and I text in class. Mostly because everything they teach at school is boring... But yeah, just because you text in class doesn't mean you get a bad mark.

It is ok, because in the real world - outside of school people text in their jobs.

School is to get you ready for the real world...so YES...just be sure that you don't text with spelling mistakes... because that would be very bad - especially in ENGLISH class.

I personally find it disrespectful texting in class while the teacher is trying to teach you something that will most likely be on the test. If you are talking to somebody, would you like it when the person you are talking to is paying more attention to their phone instead of listening to you? I'm quite sure you would be a bit annoyed.
And it's not the kids that have good memories that are texting, it's those kids that are rude and disrespectful, eat in class, don't take their notes, talk in class constantly, show bad attitude to the teacher for no apparent reason that are texting and when it comes to the test, they want to cheat off other people's test because guess what! they didn't take notes, didn't ask for notes, didn't study, and didn't listen in class. That makes me mad.

Lol, I'm guilty of like, half the things on your list. I eat in class and talk and text but I have a good memory and ace every subject but math (which I don't text in anyway).

If there's an emergency, you should ask to leave, not be texting. By the spelling, and grammatical errors, I suggest you put your phone away, and try learning something. If you have nothing to do, find something constructive so you can have a successful, happy and fulfilling life.

Like, someone close to you was shot, perhaps multiple times.

That or if there's nothing to do anyway. If there's no lesson/work to be done, I'd say free reign for what you do as long as it's not distracting to other classes who might be doing something.

Absolutely Not! If the students text during class they would be missing out on the teacher lesson. As my concern they shouldn't be any cell phone in the classroom at all unless it a emergency. Texting should be done during lunch breaks, but NOT in classroom. IT MESSES UP YOUR EDUCATION PROCESS.

the school i when to didn't even allow them at all. hell they tried banning outside soda. and they would go over the exact same material again and again, and disallowed off campus lunches.

In my time, in France (Paris suburbs), during class (highscool) some guys and buddies were getting high with smoking cannabis. Most of us didn't care ( that was their way of life), except for the smell...sometimes. Cell phone didn't exist back then, but i think that if it has been, this would have been very irritating with the buzzing and/or ringing and stuff.

When the teacher is teaching, the cell phone should be off. It's difficult to listen when concentrating on text or writing something completely unrelated. I won't fault people for texting when there is no lesson being taught, but responsible people make better use of work time their teacher gives them.

When I get to be president I am going to outlaw texting. They scream about guns and outlawing them, more people are killed driving and texting than by guns. Bad news stuff. Its just for those that are trying to avoid a conversation

I'm sure you're right but banning is not the solution to everything. There will always be stupid or insane people that do dumb things. You can't control everyone's actions all the time.
  • Shadow_... Gary Ab... 2012/07/28 03:22:04

Yeah go ahead and see how quickly the people revolt against you. The last thing people want is a president that controlling. On a plus phone companies would have your ass as well. I don't know how old you are, but by the time you are president, texting may be a thing of the past. Technology is already advancing super fast for no reason at all. You can already talk into your phone and word message comes up, there may be a time where everyone starts doing it. I already do :p
