Is It OK to Have Booze at Disneyworld?

Disneyworld doesn't really strike us as the kind of place to swing back a few beers... but soon, the Magic Kingdom in Orlando, Florida will feature a new restaurant that will serve both beer and wine. The new restaurant's name will be "Be Our Guest" (after the popular "Beauty and the Beast" song) and it will be French-themed.

And as Maribeth Bisienere, the vice president of food and beverage for Walt Disney Parks, puts it “You cannot walk into a French restaurant and not get a glass of wine or beer... It made more sense to do it than not to do it." Do you think it's OK to have beer and wine at a children's theme park?

TODAYTRAVEL.TODAY.COM reports:
Be our guest, be our guest, put our sommelier to the test? Starting this November, visitors to Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom in Orlando may be tempted to rework the popular song from "Beauty and the Beast" when the park opens its newest dining venue, the French-themed Be Our Guest restaurant.

The Disney theme Parks were never meant to be only for children. Disneyland's Blue Bayou restaurant has been serving alcohol for decades.

Haha I went into a McDonalds in Italy, and they were serving beer. It was the strangest thing I'd ever seen.

Not when I have always believed that Disney World is for little kids and a family atmosphere.
On the other hand, the old kids like beer.
Just seems to me that they could enjoy their beer on the way home.

I would suggest that You might to re-assess your answer. The "Blue Bayou restaurant" was a "members only Club 33" Restaurant where they served alcohol. Not just anybody could go in. Also, this is the first time in Disneyland's Magic Kingdom's 41 year History that Alcohol will be served to the General Public. Link: http://www.travelerstoday.com...

Club 33 and Blue Bayou have nothing to do with each other. Club 33 has it's own exclusive restaurant not even visible to normal park visitors. So nice try, but I'll keep my answer the way it is.

It's not a matter of "nice try." It happens to be the truth. Also, if Walt Disney was alive today (knowing his reputation), I'm not really sure that He would approve of Alcohol being sold to the General Public. Especially knowing the reason behind why he created Disneyland in the first place. Not to mention that you & me were just a toddlers when Disney World first got started. I'm just waiting to see how much time passes by till the first shootings start to take place inside the Parks. I have a feeling that we won't have to wait long. Then come the Lawsuits! Boy, that's going to be fun! (being sarcastic) facepalm

The nice try part comes in right at the point where you say one thing and I say you're wrong, which you are. You can go right to the Disneyland webpage and see for yourself. Anyone can get reservations at Blue Bayou. And I do know why he created the park. He wanted a place that was fun for the kids and adults.

Where you say that I'm wrong & what I know of Walt Disney's reputation happens to be the truth. Disney World was created for Families to have fun with each other. Not have to "a boozing time" on the weekend with the Kiddies along. Granted Walt Disney isn't around to object, but sooner or later there's going to be an Incident or string of Incidents involving Shootings, Deaths, & Lawsuits. Then, where is your answer going to be then? Heck, why don't we just go ahead & let minors into Bars, Nightclubs, and the like. Let's go ahead & just strip any type of Common Sense of what's left in Society. However, be ready for the stupidity that comes afterward! And you give a "yes" answer to this question? Talking about having a sense of misdirected Common Sense! I gave you the link to the Article that backed up my contention. The current owners & people that run Disney World as a Corporation. NOT as Walt Disney had envisioned it! Granted, it a good place to visit, but I might want to rethink any possibility of what's happening now. I don't want to find my myself with a bullet hole after reading this stuff!

Since PC angry assassin blocked me, let's cut to the chase here. All of you doomsayers who envision slobbering drunks staggering down Main St. are overreacting and quite frankly are clueless.

Why would you spend $100+ per ticket to go booze it up in the Florida heat? You can drink at home for free!

It's okay to me. Most kids probably do have parents that either drink occasionally or all the time. They don't question it when they go to Disneyworld. They only want to have fun and ride all the rides and meet all the Disney characters. Not that big of a deal

As long as it was up front and understood, this place sells wine and beer, bring ID and don't share it with the kids.

No,it's not OK!! Disneyworld is a "Amusement Park" where children are at and you don't want to introduce your children to alcohol! Disneyworld is suppose to be "Fun"!! Drinking "Alcohol" is not "Fun" it's makes you an "Idiot"!

Good grief, much ado about nothing.

ONE single restaurant in the entire park is going to serve beer and wine to the guests at THAT ONE RESTAURANT. It will not be available park wide. There will not be a pilsner cart peddling brews near the Castle, nor will people be getting loaded in the park, you will have to have a reservation and be dining at that one restaurant.

Too bad it may make it a little bit more enjoyable. I love kids. I don't love a bazillion kids. I cold beer will take that edge off.

Many adults sneak in a flask, or a beer or two. No biggie.

i only get pissy when it is drunken fools at Epcot, who spent the day drinking Around the World, or at Germany-getting fairly tilled and then want to create havoc.

Yup, I understand. I typically have 1 or 2 beers a weekend with dinner. It isn't uncommon for me to go a few month without having any.

I had enough in my college years to last a lifetime.
