But only if it's a designated "bring your pets to work day" or something...

Or if it's during the weekend and you're working overtime.

People with pets should respect the workplace and leave your pet at home. I love my cat but I can't just pack him away and bring him to work. I have one person at my job that brings her dog in to work and she does it because she feels rules don't apply to her. When she moves from her desk, you have to listen to her dog cry for her...nobody wants to hear that when they are trying to work. Leave the pet at home or stay home with him.

Depends on the pet, and it depends on the office.

Dogs and cats are by far the most likely to trigger allergies, so unless you work in a small office with little to no outside visitors, they're a big no-no. Either that or you'd have to bathe them every time you brought them in, and brush them thoroughly (what people are allergic to is the dander and the saliva (both contain proteins that cause allergic reactions). Which isn't good for the dog or cat, at least not on a daily basis.

Other small pets are known for causing allergies, but are far less likely - so again - small office and know your coworkers.

Other animals, however, tend to be nearly allergy-free (nearly. There are some oddball cases). Fish, frogs, etc... tend to be safe animals for office spaces, and by all means should be allowed. Having a fish tank (albeit a small one) at your office can actually improve productivity by acting as a stress reducer. I know that this is the case for myself, at least - my 8 gallon fish tank is compact, and it provides a nice, stress-reducing distraction now and again. I look at it when I'm too wound up to focus on my work, and after a minute of looking at my fish and watching them dart through the moss in the tank, I'm ready to go back to my work with a clear mind.

I highly recommend fish tanks in most office environments. As well as some nice, easy-to-care-for plants. They really do help!

Well, it all depends on where you work. Vet, Petsmart, or places that usually allow pets = OK

It is entirely depends on the workplace. There are people who choose to work in a pet friendly workplace. There are others who can't stand animals. Everybody has their own choice. Choose a company for your liking.

Absolutely not!!! You don't bring your kids to work so why your dog? For every minute you spend taking care of your dog that is a minute you take away from your employer.

Who said the pet had to be a dog?

Fish are pets. I know a great number of offices that allow fish.

I don't consider fish a pet but I guess they could be. I don't see anything wrong with having fish in the workplace. You don't have to keep taking them outside to potty. lol

Depends on the company I guess. Some may be relaxed about things like that. As long as the dog is very well behaved and trained well I don't see a problem.

No a computer software development company. Since my employee's are mostly young single types and work 12 hours a day I don't mind. Even my investors don't mind. We have a casual working environment after working for corporate America it's a welcome change. So Carrie what kind of company do you run?

My husband and I own a manufacturing company. We would never allow dogs in the workplace. It's just not very professional. If someone else does it's none of my business.

No. If you're not allowed to bring your child, why would you be allowed to bring your pet? When did we as humans begin placing animals on a higher scale then humans? I mean, I'm an animal lover. I have a house full of them...birds, snakes, cats, dogs, lizards, fish. I love em, but I'd rather be able to take my child then my pet.

Oh I am totally in agreement. I cannot stand the sound of a crying baby or child. Drives me insane! Bring your kid but don't be surprised to find that I have duck taped it to the outside of the office window.

Wow. I'd rather see a well behaved child then a stinky, hair ridden, poop making mutt. I take it, you don't have kids, and if so, I pity them.

Love furry critters, but not if a work area is staffed with other workers, and especially if accessible to client/customers. Professional decorum, attitudes and 24/7 concentration is required.

I've worked for companies that allowed folks to bring their pets, mostly dogs. Some were nice and well behaved. Others created problems with noise and *ahem* other things.

It depends on the pet, the workplace, and the coworkers. Some people are allergic to various kinds of pet dander. Some people just don't like dogs, or cats, or hamsters, or whatever critter, so it makes for a tense working area.

    Depends on the work.

I had a friend who worked in a junk yard.. he brought his German Shephard to work all the time.

I love animals, but I wouldn't bring my pets to work....They're too needy. ; )
Smells, hair, allergies, and time away spent monitoring and caring for pets are all good reasons why a boss wouldn't want them there.
It's like bringing kids to work.. it's just not conducive...While some people love pets (kids), not everyone does. Not all pets are well-behaved or ready to be around alot of other people, or around other pets....
Kids and pets are like a fart to a lot of people. They can only stand their own... LOL!

Depends upon what vocations or workplace you are in or what kind of behavior your dog has.
I have a beautiful dog greet me ever time I go to my general practitioner. He greets all patients and then just goes lie down and stays out of the way.
