We already stirred a hot debate when we asked you whether or not it's OK for a woman not to wear a bra. Now we have another one for you:

Is it OK for a woman not to shave her armpits?

Oscar-winner Hilary Swank sported a not-very-swanky look at Elle magazine's recent Women in Hollywood Tribute when she revealed a patch of armpit hair, Stylelist reports.

Unfortunately, the grooming oversight distracted from her rockin' body, glam dress and cool retro hairdo.

This immediately reminded us of the stir that Julia Roberts caused when she went au naturel at the "Notting Hill" premiere years ago, and more recently on the beach with her family. Is there a link between Oscar winners and hairy armpits? That may be worth further study.

In the meantime, give us your two cents. Is it OK for women to let their armpit hair grow in? (Admit it, ladies: you get tired of shaving sometimes.) Or is it the pits?

I haven't shaved in nine months because it is a waste of time and I get painful red bumps. I prefer it this way because I don't like feeling like a hairless little girl again when I am an adult. I refuse force my views down peoples throat because the fact of the matter is we all live in what we believe is normal.

I haven't shaved anything since my wedding day. My husband doesn't mind because I keep it clean and don't flaunt it.

Yeah it's "okay" it's also disgusting IMO. While we're on this topic though - men should do more hair landscaping as well. Beasts.

Why should I have to shave my pits? And, before anyone tells me that I do other stuff to enhance my appearance, I'll go ahead and say it right now: It is my prerogative to beautify myself and to choose in which ways I do so. I don't need to give reasons as to why I don't shave my pits but still choose to put on makeup. Although, I do shave my pits...at least in the summer. Haha! I go a while sometimes in the Fall or Winter without doing so. I like to give my pits a rest sometimes because I end up getting painful razor burn that won't go away.

While it is a matter of personal choice - how accepted it is depends on what country you come from. Most women do not shave in many countries in Europe. In the US - it is considered rather nasty. Most of the men I know find it a turn-off.

Geeze.... Do people think we women have shaved forever. It's a 20th century thing. What ever she wants, it's her life. If people don't like it then don't look. It's that simple.

I find body hair repulsive on men and women but as women tend to show their armpits more it is important they shave them. Male gymnasts who show their armpits all shave them because they don't wish to display unsightly hairy armpits in public.

Personally, I like to keep my pits shaved - not because armpit hair is unattractive, but because it gets really sweaty and itchy in there.

Come on people. Don't we live in the 21st century? A woman can do what she wants to do. She can shave if she wants, and she doesn't have to shave if she doesn't want to. Armpit hair, if left alone, does not affect whether or not she is a man-hating lesbian or a perfectly feminine flower. Our society needs to stop objectifying women and making them conform to some standard of beauty.

Your last sentence is also one of my strong opinions. Unfortunately nowadays some men have been brainwashed into removing body hair. Growth of body hair shows sexual maturity; it is sexy. I love hair, the more the better!!

Back in the seventies when I was at University, there were plenty of hippy leftovers from the sixties still around. One was this gorgeous blond professor who was fond of revealing clothes. Needless to say all the men signed up for her course...that was until the first day, oh my!

She walked in wearing a sundress and we noticed right off she hadn't shaved her legs. My legs weren't that hairy! This didn't bode well. She began to discuss her background when she pointed to some of her work on the wall behind her. As she lifted her arm, what appeared to be a large gerbil peeked out of her pit. We all cringed. Some of the guys on the front row noticed a pungent odor as well.

Shoot, I know guys that wax their backs and chests as a courtesy to their wives! Needless to say, it was a long semester.

Next thing to be asked..should women be allowed to 'have' armpits. We live in an over- opinionated country, where you can't have a opinion nor freedom to do anything because others opinions.

I personally think it's ugly as hell on a woman to have hair under her arms, especially if she is out and wearing some attire that readily shows it. But, whether she shaves or not is up to her, it happens to be a personal thing, not the business of others to decide.

I understand if they choose not to, but it looks nasty when they put deordorant on and have white clunks under their arms when they lift them. This is not attractive in any way or form. It doesnt take long to remove hair from this area. If you are always wearing a shirt to cover your armpits dont shave, but if you have on a blouse or shirt with no sleeves please do us a favor and shave under your arms.

It's a matter of personal choice. I appreciate women who remove temptation for me. Hairy armpits are a turn off for me. Guess this answers the question raised on an episode of the The Office a few years ago, Hillary Swank isn't hot.
