Is it ok for pregnant women to move furniture?

My girlfriend insists on moving furniture around, but she is around 25 weeks pregnant. She waits for me to go to work before she does it, because she knows that I dont agree with her doing it. So my question is, is it safe for her to be moving furniture around?

It's perfectly fine as far as the baby is concerned. It's floating around in the amniotic sac which is acting as a cushion to protect him/her; it will be fine. As far as your g/f is concerned, the increase in hormone production softens her muscle and ligaments which makes them easier to "pull". All it will take is pulling the round ligaments in her abdomen which hurts like a SOB and she'll probably quit doing it or at least ask for help. Give it a rest, it sounds like she's nesting and you aren't going to win this argument with her.

As long as she doesn't push it too hard....you can trust her to be in tune with her body and not do something that is not safe for her....also she's only 25 weeks....

I wish you had an "other" option. It's really something she should run past her doctor. For most women it's probably fine as long as she doesn't overdo it. For some, though, it's dangerous. Here's a compromise...Get her some of those round flat things that make furniture slide easily across the floor, put them under the legs of the furniture for her, and let her move stuff around to her heart's content.

Pregnant women are tremendously strong. Part of the furniture moving isn't about how your home looks at all. It's the nesting process.

Hey, if she's healthy let her, or she'll drive you crazy. Mine went out and mowed our third acre lawn with a push mower and wasn't worse for the wear. The kids all popped out okay.

As long as there is no medical problem. Just wait until she starts "nesting". I was on my hands and knees scrubbing the kitchen floor at 8 months. :)

Buy her some moving men and put them under the furniture.

P.S. - She might resent you for not doing more, that is why she does it when you are not around.

I moved furniture around through some of my pregnancies and i'm convinced that ended up being the cause of some of my physical problems ... nothing major but it does pop up every now and then.

I wouldn't if I were her or if she were my wife. It might be ok, but then sometimes not. She already has a strain on her back. Why add more?

I started nesting later than that, but you are right, no stopping a woman nesting.

Quite simply all I meant is: if the 'pregnant ' lady has a male spouse/partner-whatever-then I should have imagined he would take it upon himself to move any large objects for his lady to avoid her injuring either herself or the unborn child of his that she is carrying.I hope that makes the meaning of my little comments crystal clear-" Rocket Science", it ain't!!!

I moved furniture and all kinds of stuff, even had to get me a bigger pair of carharts to accomidate my baby belly! We moved from our rental to our house when I was 6 months pregnant. As long as you and the baby are healthy I see no problem with it

I think so it helps move labor along pretty well. This is a neat question. When my wife was pregnant and thought she was in labor we went to the hospital very early on a Saturday morning, they sent us home as she was not far along. We had furniture being delivered that same day and we spent the day moving it around so she could get it how she wanted. She would take a break and have a contraction and then move some more furniture. By that evening she was back in Delivery and still did not give birth to our daughter until 8am the next morning. I think the furniture helped move things along.............

My wife is a RN and pretty much knew her body and what she could do and couldn't. That was many years ago and things may have changed since then. She was working in labor and delivery right up to the day before she went into labor. No one size of labor or moving stuff fits all, LOL
