    Context is everything.
I have been hit by my Mother, my Wife and a Daughter. In none of those instances was a return blow required. As defense of life or safety of others are the requirements for me.
I did elbow a girl in grade school. She wanted to join in 'clobber the guy with the ball' (Known by a previous name now not PC) and she was biting my arm at the time. I got three wacks after lunch.
Another time, Mother decided I needed a slap, (for something, I didn't think so) after the first one I began blocking them, (wax on wax off style) she just kept at it until she was tired. I should have let he slap me a couple more times as I heard about how I hurt her hands for 6 months.
My Wife once struck me on the shoulder and ripped my shirt. While it was a favorite shirt, I just held her by the shoulders until the argument returned to a more reasonable level. Tho the volume was still high.
My Daughter was in her teens and being belligerent, I had just grounded her for two days, increased to a week in response to her next comment. She then proceeded to pound on my chest with both fists. I leaned into it and laughed softly. When she stopped I asked if she was shooting for a month? She walked away and didn't speak to me for 4 days.
So peaceful it was. I read on her my space later that ...

I know that hitting is never the way to go but if a woman can't control herself I think a man should be allowed to slap her out of it. Especially if he's been struggling to keep her from hitting him. I mean to think there's only yes or no answer isn't realistic. If you just watch Snapped, I forget which channel, we should really take into account that there are men out there that really don't do anything to their wives and end up murdered. So if you don't want to get hit you shouldn't hit either. I don't care how angry you get. I will say though that I give more respect to those men that don't raise a hand to a woman, however, I have thought many a times that if only the husband put his foot down to his wife she wouldn't be such an idiot. And vice-versa.

Good for you!!!! I sincerely mean that! People don't need to be treated like that, no matter if they are drunk, stressed, or whatever.
    May your path be blessed!

Yes it is...domestic abuse goes both ways. Either sex can be charged and serve time for it.
There is also the assault charges...no preference there on what sex is the accused.

And even when it's for self defense, you still may not be allowed to walk. I served time for defending myself before.
The system is sometimes screwy, isn't it?

Not really, I was the youngest of seven with five older brothers and a hard Celtic head.
A stranger striking me may bring the berserker forth, and has. But family, nah. I have been pummeled by experts. (older brothers) I have won fights because the other guy was tired of fighting.
I could use some self control though, if you know where I could get it cheap. I do have a budget.
P.S. off topic, have you read 1491 ?

Ugh! SH is annoying when your message disappears in cyberspace!

LOL I'm in more need of self control than you are! ;-) I don't think you give yourself enough credit though, I think you are very strong indeed!!!

I haven't read 1491 but I did google it just before replying back to you the first time. It looks like a very interesting read and I'm glad to see a story about my people before the Europeans took over. There is so much lost and what isn't lost is almost warped when it comes to the history books. What did you think of the book? Thanks for recommending it, I'm definitely adding it to my "must read" book list!

It depends with what she's hitting in with..
If she comes at him with something that could cause serious damage, then yes, I think he should at least defend himself even if that means having to hit her..
