Yes, it is.
Americans know way too less about other countries. They often seem narrow minded (not all but many). Many don´t see that America isn´t perfect. Does the greatest country in the world restrict human rights (->Guantanamo)? Does the greatest country in the world still murder people (-> death penalty)? Does the grestest country in the world still forbid gays to oficially love each other (-> gay marriage)? Does the greatest country in the word start revenge wars (which kills thousands of civilians) to take vengance for 9/11 (-> Afghanistan and Iraq war)?
No, I don´t think so.
"Real patriotism means to admit when you´re country is wrong".
Is it arrogant for an American to say that America is the greatest country in the world?

RV ~ The Peacekeeper of PHAET 2011/10/22 07:54:50yes I think so

The first paragraph on this site (and there are hundreds or thousands of similar sites):
"History shows us that great nations rise and fall. Babylon and Greece have fallen. The Roman Empire has come and gone, and will rise once more. Is it possible that the United States, like so many superpowers of years past, could be turned to ashes? What lessons can we learn from history, and from Scripture?"
Self praise is no recommendation.
But it is okay to feel proud of your nation and to know that it IS ONE of the Best Countries in the World :D
I have a unique perspective on this poll, I'm what's called a "Third Culture Kid" - American, American parents, grew up outside the United States. I lived in France, Germany and England before coming to the States in 1970. Once I finished school, I began to travel again. 192 sovereign nations on this dirtball, I've been to about 70% of them in my lifetime. Very few I would want to live in, the ones I would would probably surprise you. The United Kingdom, France or Germany do not make the list. America is, of course, at the top.
The title of the video is angemessen, we are on a descent to becoming "Amerika" as we pick up speed on this slippery slope towards European Socialism. The left, the Democrats, became the Socialist Democrats in the '60's and the Communist party in the early '90's. The Republicans, the right, the 'conservatives' slid up the scale to the left to take the place of the Democrats. There has not been a true Conservative option in this country for many years. The closest we've had in a very long time was Reagan and he was not 100% conservative.
What makes us better than Europe (or just about anywhere else)? It's because we are not Europe. I saw someone post something to the ...

What makes us better than Europe (or just about anywhere else)? It's because we are not Europe. I saw someone post something to the effect 'as long as America has been around, only 1% are wealthy'. Hmmm, okay, following that logic, the European nations have been around for centuries with histories stretching back thousands of years, not just two hundred thirty five (two hundred and twenty four under the Constitution). Every man, woman and child in Europe should be a billionaire by now. Oh, wait.... you guys lived under ruthless monarchies that were intent on keeping the peasants poor and servile, the only rights recognized were special favors granted by the king and, in most cases, the slightest infraction was punishable by death. Rule was with an iron fist and fear was the most common motivator. In the early part of the 20th century, the Bolsheviks overthrew the Tsar and his repressive rule but the cure was worse than the disease. Millions of people were slaughtered under the Soviet rule for the next 70 years. Rammstein needs to look at recent German history before they criticize their liberators. I think they need a primer on fascism and a crazy little Austrian SOB that took their country down the road to the gates of hell.
Are we perfect? Hell, no. Is anyone? Hell, no. Are we the best thing the minds of man have come up with in the history of mankind? You bet your sweet ass and will continue to be. We've had hitches in the get along before, we've overcome them. We will overcome the problems we have now. That's what Americans do. The first thing we have to do is get back to being Americans and quit trying to imitate Europeans, that ain't funny, it's pathetic. Get this incompetent clown out of the White House and send the rest of the Communist Democrats packing (maybe to Europe LOL), get back to the parameters of the Constitution and BE AMERICA again.

Well, except for Texas... Texas is definitely the greatest country in the world...
When we're surpassed the US will still be the best to me.
We are the greatest country in the world when another country needs a bail out or a battle fought.
And after they get the support that they want then we are the biggest bastards they ever met.
But to each his own.
♥ RAMMSTEIN!
but the other countries are worst
Is it arrogant to say "America is the most powerful nation in the world."? No because it is probably true. Does being the most powerful nation in the world make America the greatest nation? Perhaps by some people's criteria.
Is it arrogant to say "America is the most generous nation."? Probably because other nations give more. Does this mean other nations are greater than America? Perhaps by some people's criteria.
Is it arrogant to say "America produces more carbon dioxide per person than any other country on earth"? No because this is also true. Does this make America great? Many would say it makes America evil not great.
America is beyond a doubt a great country. It accomplished many amazing feats. It is also the best at many things but it is not the best at everything. And since America is not the best at everything, saying we are the greatest is an idle boast and therefore must be considered arrogant because it assumes everyone shares our values.
We have issues but we still are the greatest country
