Is it a good idea or a bad idea for someone who weights 110pounds to go into an eating disorder program when they should be weighing 115pounds?

    Bad idea

110 pounds isn't a bad number for anyone whose body is fit at that weight. To go lower is not a good idea physically speaking, as it could cause some minor problems and even lower, may cause some organ problems [ anorexia ].If 5lbs more is healthy, then they should gain it. Everyone's body is different. A doctor could help in that area if one is not sure to which way to go.

Might be a bad idea from the data present. 115 lbs implies 5 feet 3 inches of height, so for that no a 5 lb deficit is not right.

Yes a person who is 5 feet 3 inches should be weighting at 115pounds, but I am 5 feet 2 and a half inches and I weight 110pounds.

The numbers do not support a weight loss program -- 22 year old female,5 feet 2 and 1/2 inches and weighing 110 pounds? Two questions. 1) What does your physician think of this? (assuming you have seen a physician) 2) Are you having health problems/menstrual irregularities/mood swings?

She thinks that I should at least be at 115pounds.
No I am not having any health problems.

So, is it your physician who wants you to go to an eating disorder program or your Mother? If it is your physician, I think you may need a second opinion, because you do not meet any criteria with which I am familiar. if it is your Mother, tell her you are grateful for her concern but she needs to butt out. At 5 feet 2 1/2 inches you may weigh anywhere between 103 to 138 pounds and be considered normal.

It was my Physician who wants me to go into the eating disorder program.

It doesn't sound like a good idea. Would have to know more history, like did this person lose a lot of weight in the last year and can't stop? If they have been stable and just want to gain 5 pounds, it sounds like a bad idea.

My 8th grade of middleschool, I weight 100pounds. During the summer between 8th grade and 9th grade I ate a tub of ice cream and gained 15pounds. Scared about my gain, I started to eat less and work out more. Waking up at 6am each and every morning to go to school and work out. Than I went to working out for 15mins after I had gotten up from bed and before going to bed each and every morning and night. Than I started hola hooping for two hours straight. I lost weight. My mother started to worry and she had sent me to our work place were there is a nutrionist and I had worked with her for a few months before I continued to loss weight. My mother freaked out when I was trying on my clothes for the upcoming trip to Flordia for my 21st birthday and my mother had stop me from going to she the nutrionist and sent me to the hospital. There I was told that I either follow their meal plan or I will be placed into their inpatient program. Not want to go into the inpatient program, I worked hard to stay out of the intpatient program and it has been working great for a year now but I fear that I am slipping and I am going back to the ways that I use to be. I would agree that I wouldn't need to really go into an eating disorder program for I am only five pounds underweight but than again I...

Thank you so much for the help and thank you so much for your reply. You had really helped me.

Thank you. You as well. So I take it that you think that it is now a good idea for me to go into an eating disorder program or still no?

That's a call only you can make. If you feel you have a disorder, at least you will get some help and instruction on balancing your diet with your exercise. At least I hope so.
