Is It a Dating Dealbreaker If Your Significant Other Doesn't Like Your Pet?

Love me, love my pet. That's how women feel, according to new research showing that a woman is happier in her relationship when her partner feels the same way about her pet as she does, LiveScience reports.

So if she's totally crazy about her little furball, guys, you had better be, too. But dudes, on the contrary, don't really seem to care if their girlfriends dig their pets. "Either they're unaware or they don't care," study researcher Kristen Capuozzo, a doctoral candidate at the University of Houston, told LiveScience. "It doesn't matter to them."

However, if a guy is TOO close to his own pet, it might work against him in the dating department: When a woman believes that a man is closer to a pet than she is, "She kind of gets jealous," Capuozzo told LiveScience. Yup, guys, it's true what they say: you can't win. However, men who had close relationships with their pets were happier in their relationship as well.

We've had our pesky cat allergy get in the way of more than one relationship, leading us to believe that a person's feeling about pets is truly a dating dealbreaker. Is it that way for you? Or are you willing to put the person ahead of your pet?

I would never date someone that doesn't like my pets. Hell, I wouldn't even date someone with a bad attitude towards any animal, be it a stray dog or a fly.

I totally agree. There is something wrong with anyone who does not love dogs.

They're cuties! But those are stock photo dogs. I need to load some pics of my dogs. They're Border Collies though. :)

Trace needs me more than I need my boyfriend. My dog is disabled and if my bf can't accept that then he can leave and don't come crawling back.

If a guy did not like my dog, that would be fine. However he would still have to treat her with respect and not be mean to her. Good thing my husband loves my dog as much as I do :-)

I don't like dogs.. I like my cats.
I don't think it would work. If the person liked dogs but not cats I could not date them.. And odds are they won't want to date me.
Find someone who likes animals that you like, is my best bet.
(My ex girlfriend was extremely creepy with her dogs.. Borderline bestiality. It was the worst to watch her interact with her dogs, she was a creep.)

If they DON'T like my pets, or if they DISlike them? Those are two different questions. I don't care if they don't like them, as long as they don't mind to be in the same room with them. But if they DISLIKE them, sorry, keep looking. I'm not the guy for you.

This was something I feared when starting to date again after my last break up. That this guy better love my pets as much as I do. And luckily it worked out. Because I was devoted to them already.

She doesn't necessarily have to like my pet but will have to accept the animal. She'll be gone before my pet.

Pets are territorial... My grandmothers dog hated my dad.

My pet is part of family. If she can't accept the pet, she knows where the door is.
