Is It a Dating Dealbreaker If Your Significant Other Doesn't Like Your Pet?

You!

Love me, love my pet. That's how women feel, according to new research showing that a woman is happier in her relationship when her partner feels the same way about her pet as she does, LiveScience reports.

dog

So if she's totally crazy about her little furball, guys, you had better be, too. But dudes, on the contrary, don't really seem to care if their girlfriends dig their pets. "Either they're unaware or they don't care," study researcher Kristen Capuozzo, a doctoral candidate at the University of Houston, told LiveScience. "It doesn't matter to them."

However, if a guy is TOO close to his own pet, it might work against him in the dating department: When a woman believes that a man is closer to a pet than she is, "She kind of gets jealous," Capuozzo told LiveScience. Yup, guys, it's true what they say: you can't win. However, men who had close relationships with their pets were happier in their relationship as well.

We've had our pesky cat allergy get in the way of more than one relationship, leading us to believe that a person's feeling about pets is truly a dating dealbreaker. Is it that way for you? Or are you willing to put the person ahead of your pet?

I would never date someone that doesn't like my pets. Hell, I wouldn't even date someone with a bad attitude towards any animal, be it a stray dog or a fly.

No more so than if the date didn't like my parents, some of my friends, or my sister. Pets, as well as people, have personalities and sometimes personalities clash. Not a big deal.

But it is a big deal when you are ready to settle down with someone. All those things you thought didn't matter, become huge.

It's still best if pets, date, etc. all get along well, though, I agree. :)

Oh, yes, it would be great if they all liked each other, but I just would not give up a pet for any reason on purpose and certainly not for a person I was in a romance with.

Me either. I'd just tell them to deal with it if they didn't get along. Pets get used to people a lot easier than people get used to pets, I think.

I don't really like pets. If my girlfriend/wife has a pet, then I will help take care of it, but I would never own a pet on my own.

That's why they invented stew, Bill. Ummm...nice, stewed Bill with peas, carrots and redskin potatoes.

And, just a touch of basil.

Darn! I did forget the onions. But, you can keep the rutabaga and turnips. I don't think that even a nice, stewed Bill could make up for those.

I'm afraid I've misunderstood your intentions. I thought you wanted to get me liquored up and over FOR dinner not AS dinner. This is becoming clear to me now. As an aside, I certainly did not want this Basil person touching me. I'm afraid I shant be joining your festivities. Perhaps you could try some tender Fricasee o' Feline.

But, Bill, cats are so small. While you, OTOH, offer just so much more. And, we can crisp up your skin so beautifully, without having to worry about fur in our teeth.

But, you're welcome to get stewed (in the OTHER meaning) first, if you like. I hear that makes the meat much more tender. Don't worry about Basil. I only use the merest pinch. You'll never feel it...especially pre-stewed.

I'm afraid the fur in the teeth would still be a problem. I still think bobcat barbecue would be a better choice for you nutritionally. With some siamese soup for starters of course

Oh, no! Big cats taste horrible! VERY gamey. Humans, OTOH, are said to taste like pork. That's a much better alternative. Mmmmm...barbecue sauce...

BTW, Bill, I love your sense of humor!

eta: Hair is no problem. That's why they invented Nair.

I've got it! Cooncat casserole! Nearly as large as a free range bobcat, yet still soft and mooshy like a housecat. With all the fur you could knit a toaster cozy or a doormat. That would keep you busy and divert your attention away from my demise.
