Is It a Dating Dealbreaker If Your Significant Other Doesn't Like Your Pet?

Love me, love my pet. That's how women feel, according to new research showing that a woman is happier in her relationship when her partner feels the same way about her pet as she does, LiveScience reports.

dog

So if she's totally crazy about her little furball, guys, you had better be, too. But dudes, on the contrary, don't really seem to care if their girlfriends dig their pets. "Either they're unaware or they don't care," study researcher Kristen Capuozzo, a doctoral candidate at the University of Houston, told LiveScience. "It doesn't matter to them."

However, if a guy is TOO close to his own pet, it might work against him in the dating department: When a woman believes that a man is closer to a pet than she is, "She kind of gets jealous," Capuozzo told LiveScience. Yup, guys, it's true what they say: you can't win. However, men who had close relationships with their pets were happier in their relationship as well.

We've had our pesky cat allergy get in the way of more than one relationship, leading us to believe that a person's feeling about pets is truly a dating dealbreaker. Is it that way for you? Or are you willing to put the person ahead of your pet?

I would never date someone that doesn't like my pets. Hell, I wouldn't even date someone with a bad attitude towards any animal, be it a stray dog or a fly.

If he had a pet I couldn't stand, I would break it off, but my husband dislikes the fact that my bird has feathers and is dusty - he can leave if it's that much of a big deal. He just covers her cage when we eat instead. THERE ARE ways to compromise - the world does not revolve around any of us.

My dog lives with me. Guess she wouldn't. I''m guilty as well as I won't even date people with cats, I am just too allergic to them.

If I were to own a pet, it would simply be a pet - not a family member.

I absolutely agree with this. If they tolerate your pet enough to talk to them and spend time with them, then that's fine. I have four beautiful dogs, that I admire very much. four dogs

Look at their faces. You have be holding food. The little one on the end looks like he's getting ready to jump.

the one lying down is Joey from there its; Sonny, Charlie and Wendy. Charlie and Wendy are brother and sister. They are either Walker hounds or Foxhounds. I usually say the are Walker Foxhounds. I don't know which they are but I do know they are pure breeds.

Absolutely. Your pet is your family. So, if he/she doesn't like your pet, then bail immediately. Your pet was there first. You can always get another date.

And, don't listen to that queen that commented here. If your girlfriend gets jealous of your pet, she is mental and you should dump her on that issue alone. You are going to have a bad relationship if she cannot even get along with your pet. She has MAJOR mental issues.

Absolutely! Mt pets have always been part of my family. Closer than many members of my family, actually. I could never be with someone who didn't like them, or even love them eventually. My hubby and I are both animal lovers and there has to be something seriously wrong with an animal for us not to like it, and then we generally agree on that.

Your pets will always be there for you and always stay completely loyal. They are dependent on you and you're the only one they have to trust. If you're putting a person before the creature that would do anything for you, something's wrong in your head.

Never had a dog leave me because it decided it was gay or leave me for another guy leaving me with her dog, her cat, her kid and $40,000 of her debt. (Two different women, you really can't make this stuff up.

Absolutely! It's even more of a dealbreaker when my pet doesn't like my date.

As far as the gender comment, I'd bet the poll was skewed. I don't know a man with a pet who would want to date a woman who screamed, "Dog germs, dog germs!" every time his Ajax came near her.

    One-night-stand...yes. Serious date...um...no.

I cannot imagine giving up a pet for someone. I ended many a relationship right away, if a man did not love pets. It would not have worked anyway. But then I met my husband who married me with (14) pets. We are very happy.

Bf doesn't like my dog. He doesn't like small dogs in general. He still pets him sometimes. I don't mind that he doesn't like him. Unless he was like "it's me or the dog" then there isn't a problem.
