Higher education is always a good investment but not for all and it depens of the field.Right now though skilled labor is paying very very well and in high demand
Reach for the stars,no matter what you aspire to do in life.I don't care if it's in Garbage collecting!"I'm a Mother of five, and I always wanted my kids to be the best that they can be!And they haven't disappointed me,even as they learn, grow, and play.Don't ya know there is nothing more valuable than your children's children's future.A dummy, can only educate another dummy!
Not for everyone. A college education does not guarantee a job, but having specialized skills and a trade is what is needed. There are too many useless college courses available for those who want a quick easy diploma.
I don't know anymore. Once you're out of school with those enormous loans to pay off will there be a job for you. Even if there is a job, will it pay enough for you to pay the loans off?
At the same time you are assuring yourself a place at the bottom of the pay scale if you don't have a degree. It is not an easy time to be starting out on a career path.
Still good, but not as good as it used to be. It depends on your major. If it's in a field where there isn't much work, then it's probably not going to be as good of an investment these days.
Of course; with this many unemployed, it's a buyers market. Without a degree, people get eliminated in the first round. Suddenly, learning has little to do w/ it.
Dale Carnegie did really well in the Depression with his book How to Win Friends and Influence People.. with a hundred equally qualified candidates the job Always went to the one the boss liked the best....... learning how to get people to like you isn't taught in most expensive universities because they were intended for the children of the rich and powerful, so who needed to be likable as well? Or know how to maintain themselves on the job market, they were owners, not laborers.
Absolutely; most people don't get fired for incompetence; they get fired for not getting along. I used to make deliveries to Dale Carnegie Institute in Garden City NY. Miserable, condescending bastards, nobody wanted that stop.
would you prefer to work at Dunkin Donuts or McDonalds?
Sorry but asking people "do you want fries with that order?" does not seem like a major career success to me.... of course nor does rockstar..... brainsurgeon however, or lawyer or investor.... all require a good education..... and if you are a parent, would you want your child to never have an education? not at all? if so, who would teach them? folks that didn't get an education? If you can't count, how do you know if they guy handing you the fries gave you the right change????
yeah ok. one in many...... there are exceptions to every rule.... i know a farmer who is now a self made multi millionaire, but that is rare.... and mcdonalds trained that guy, which is an education..... just with specific skills.
The farmers I know have graduated from an agricultural college or university, and get into it with a business plan in place and funding by the bank.... Times have changed, and it is no longer possible, at least in Canada, to just grow up on the farm and take it over and continue doing things the way they have always been done. I fully support your choice as an excellent choice. It is a lifestyle choice as well, and one strife with challenges and hardship but also great rewards..... but I still suggest an educated attempt.... it reduces the chances of failing. Best of luck to you either way ! cj
my farmer friend, who is the millionaire, doesn't farm any more. He retired at age 36. He told me something I have never forgotten... "you will either Work, or make money. What do you want to do.... because right now you are too busy working to make money" I know those words are true, and yet I still haven't been able to break that cycle and make the change and it has been 15 years since he told me that... and he is still retired and wealthy with money rolling in all the time..... but then, he too got an education, came up with a plan, and then lived the plan....
Higher education usually gets one a job over someone without higher education. Also the pay is higher. The only thing is that univeristies should be publically funded and non profit entities with tuitions one quarter of what they now are.
It depends on ones financial circumstances and the type of education sought. Going deeply into debt to get a bachelor's degree in philosophy would probably bring one to appreciate the philosophy of pragmatism...the hard way.
What good is skilled labor with no unions to get all this skilled a decent wage. Some guy looks at the possibility of $14hr, and says: "For this I should go to Kollitch"?
You got that right. I have two college degrees, and they sure didn't help me get a job. The idea that you attend college for future success and employment is a total myth. Price tag: $40,000 with interest. I don't regret it though. I learned a lot and had fun, too.
If you have a degree in bio-physics then you have a shot at a job in the current job marker, but if your degree, or degrees, are in something like library science, well not much of a market. Best to your future.
Not really. All it is is a job filter these days, and not a very efficient one. More and more companies are figuring out that a piece of paper only indicates an ability to sit for long periods looking busy.
At the same time you are assuring yourself a place at the bottom of the pay scale if you don't have a degree. It is not an easy time to be starting out on a career path.

We need the JOBS to go along with it!
If your course of study requires access to an atom smasher, higher education could definitely be helpful, unless of course you build your own
plus the social opportunities are priceless.
