God made humans, we are his to do with as He sees fit.

God is so many degrees of magnitude above us that we are unable to even imagine his thoughts. He told us only what we needed to know through angels, visions and personal appearances in a cloud to Noah, and on a mountain to Moses.
God has implanted into all humans the knowledge (or instinct) that there is God. He gave us each a conscience to develop or to bind up. He doesn't make anyone go astray. Unbelievers reject salvation by their own free will.

Just because some guy wrote it hundreds of years ago doesn't mean it's true.

So don't be an Orthodox Jew or a fundamentalist Muslim, and you needn't heed those ancient Mosaic laws. If you doubt this read the book of Acts, or Maimonides' writings.

Look, God is not angry or crazy. God is a RIGHTEOUS GOD ......... Through th use of non-spiritual words you get several different impression. The truth is simply H is Righteous. If he judges then you are in trouble. It is Jesus Coming that forestalls God's Justice. We are all given th chance to believe in and find Jesus as our savior. It is not a threat. It is a promise for Justice, which the world is lacking. He also promises an escape from this wicked world we live in, which would never happen without the promised justice.

He did do this through the military commander Joshua. There is some questions as to why He did this. Some, including me, tend to think it was for a similar reason as to the flood which is the "Angel theory." This has to do with a theory that talks about how Angels thought women were fair and they mated with them, causing a contamination of the blood lines created by God. As a result God exterminated their race.
Sounds far out to non-believers I know, but if you can take away something about the OT God is that He is scary and not someone you want to mess with. The benevolence of the NT is only due to the sacrifice of Jesus.
I do not pretend to know the motivations of God, but let's just say I do not want to be on His bad side.
