According to TakePart.com, state fair foods are reaching new levels of golden brown and delicious. From deep-fried butter to Kool-Aid, just about everything on the menu is getting the fried treatment. The days of corn dogs are certainly out, being replaced by more sought-after fare, emerging from the hot caldron of bubbly oil.

Self control people. Self control. Take responsibility for yourself. That includes what you put in your mouth. You can't blame someone else if you've picked up a bottle of poison and drank it (mind you it's labelled in huge writing with a hazard sign). Same goes for food.

Fried food can never go too far, for most people they only eat this sort of thing at the state fair and no other time. No big deal if it's eaten in moderation.

I say that the food at the state fair doesn't go too far enough! 7 dollar deep fried baby on a stick! For 8.50 we'll give the contents of your pocket a 500 degree peanut oil fondue! 'Crispy leavings' in a cone for only 9 dollars! ...or even 'corndogs'.

It's not something people eat daily and even if they did do the food police really need to penalize everyone because some people refuse to do what is best for themselves. Do Americans even remember what it means to live freely anymore? If I don't like something I don't have to buy it however why do I then get to tell someone that they can't buy it because I don't like it? Why do we need big brother looking over our shoulder to ensure we don't do or eat something that may not be good for us? Natural selection does help ensure the idiots don't last long so why interfer?

My whole family was brought up on recycled lard and fat pork chops. There's no heart attacks or obesity. Some of this stuff looks great.

I wish there was a middle choice. They can offer what they want, and people can choose not to buy it. What is sad and confusing, is why Americans are eating themselves to death. We are at a point where more of us are fat or obese than are not. It is sad and scary. A doctor in the military told me that it is a national security risk. We need such a large military and so many young people cannot pass the physical. If we are all fat and unhealthy, how will we defend ourselves? People are profiting on others weakness by offering to sell this junk. But hey, it's a free country. We all have to take responsibility for ourselves. Yes, it's fun to indulge at times, and a fair is all American as apple pie. I just think that there are more fun things to do than eating fried butter.

They should have left it a funnel cake, corndogs and churros these are the only fried snacks that I will eat if I go to the county fair. It's been 16 years since I went to the county fair lol.

i totally agree, but when are people going to blame the parents? just because the food is out there, doesn't mean everyone should eat it... my parents didnt let me eat junk all the time.. mcdonalds was a treat for me, i barely ever got it, and fair/fatty food was monitored, parents need to stop being friends and start being parents again

Yes

Deep fried food is unhealthy, with one exception; the use of peanut oil, which does not break down like all other oils including olive oil. I enjoy fried potatoes and onions, but I boil the potatoes first, saute the onions and then add the boiled potatoes to the onions for flavor and quickly remove all of it.

Actually we're all paying for it now. It's illegal in the US for hospitals to refuse help simply because someone has no health insurance so guess who pays for that care? The Individual Mandate in the health care law is supposed to address this problem (known in economics as the free rider problem). Whether that will offset the subsidies for people who need help to pay for insurance is unclear but most estimates believe that it will if the mandate is properly enforced.

How do you figure you will foot the bill for every health issue!? I guess you aren't counting in the people that can pay for their own health. IF this is the only excuse you have, to want to take away people's right to choose what they want to eat, it's a very poor excuse, find a new one please.

I didn't say every bill, but in the US you cannot be refused medical help but 50 million people don't have health insurance and many can't afford health care either so the medical services eat the cost. That gets passed on to you and me in higher costs for care and for insurance. It's not an all or nothing world Maiko. There are lots of shades of gray.

I know its our choice to eat what we want, I think there should be more health concious foods available. I.e. vegan, and sugar free desserts.
