Drinking a reasonable amount of soda a day, such as a can or two, isn't likely to hurt you.
but its the Calories is why people drink Diet Soda instead of regular soda
but is Diet soda Worse for you than Regular Soda?

because diet coke contains aspartame, a cancer causing chemical. Regular coke does not have that chemical

One liter of an aspartame-sweetened beverage can produce about fifty-six milligrams of methanol. When several of these beverages are consumed in a short period of time (one day, perhaps), as much as two hundred fifty milligrams of methanol are dumped into the bloodstream, or thirty-two times the EPA limit.” So, you’re poisoning your body, too.

And when it comes to saccharin, which is a noncaloric petroleum derivative estimated to be three hundred to five hundred times sweeter than sugar: “More than a dozen animal tests over the last thirty years have demonstrated the carcinogenic effects of saccharin in the bladder and other sites, particularly female reproductive organs, and in some instances at doses as low as the equivalent of one to two bottles of diet pop daily.”

With diet soda, you’ve gone from high calories to poisonous levels of methanal and an increased chance of developing cancer and kidney stones. Not a very good trade

Any soda in an aluminum can isn't good for you because of a coating they use on the aluminum cans which is linked to breast cancer. People say the artificial sugar is bad for you but aspartame which is what is used in diet sodas is an amino acid which your body can absorb. That being said, anything of too much isn't good for you. If you drink bottled soda in moderation, you should be okay.

They're both bad in their own ways. Regular soda has a lot of sugar in it and diet soda has a lot of artificial chemicals that could cause cancer or who knows what else.

In the United States regular carbonated drinks are using the high fructose corn syrup which has been known to have some degree of mercury in it. Small enough not to kill you right away but cumulatively affects the immune system. Beware of processed foods. The FDA does not always protect us.

Soda in general isn't good for you. Nonetheless, while regular soda is simply fattening, diet soda is poison.

Well I always hated diet soda, I hit the wrong number in the pop machine one day and a diet coke came out.. I gave it to a friend but I also didn't know at the time of what you just said, lol. I view it as if you are going to drink something unhealthy, you should just drink the real one

Did you search aspartame from your mayo clinic reference?
    http://www.mayoclinic.com/hea...

Did you evaluate my initial reference?

I don't have PKU and I'm not female (though I don't use saccharin anyway because I don't like the flavor) The initial studies relating saccharin to cancer utilized massive amounts on laboratory rats bred to be so susceptible to cancer that the control group also had rats which contracted cancer. The studies were determined to be worthless but the fear lived on.

Most of the "foodie" posts are simply a plethora of recirculated myths.

LIke I said (and the Mayo Clinic is probably a pretty good source for information on cancer related issues)
    http://www.mayoclinic.com/hea...

"Artificial sweeteners have been the subject of intense scrutiny for decades. Critics of artificial sweeteners say that they cause a variety of health problems, including cancer. That's largely because of studies dating to the 1970s that linked saccharin to bladder cancer in laboratory rats. Because of those studies, saccharin once carried a warning label that it may be hazardous to your health.

But according to the National Cancer Institute and other health agencies, there's no sound scientific evidence that any of the artificial sweeteners approved for use in the United States cause cancer or other serious health problems."

That's true because CO2 is a weak acid. The body will "buffer" the acid with calcium from the bones if insufficient other buffers are available. Other acids have the same effect - citric acid in excess could too, but the vitamin C is probably more than worth the risk.
