Is Crying Good For You?

Are you ashamed to have a good cry? You shouldn't be.

In a piece for the Huffington Post, Dr, Judith Orloff argues that not only are tears NOT a sign of weakness, they're actually good for you.

According to Orloff, tears lubricate your eyes, remove irritants, reduce stress hormones and contain antibodies that fight pathogenic microbes. They also stimulate the production of endorphins, our body's natural pain killer and "feel-good" hormones.

Who knew?

Our mom hated crying in public -- and so do we. We'd say we're more embarrassed to cry in front of other people than the average woman, for better or worse. Maybe we shouldn't be.

As for dudes, we were shocked when we saw our high school boyfriend cry for the first time -- our dad would NEVER do that. But now, we think it's sweet when our husband cries.

Are You Ashamed To Cry In Public?

Yes, crying is good for you. Shrinks pointed out the benefits of crying just as this post did. Often a sense of calmness and sleepyness follows with expendture of energy and emotions. Crying at a sad movie may not be enough to bring on need for the body to recover. Society, ours and some others, have all but banned crying for males...Loss of a loved one being an exception. This is changing in recent years. But the change is slow unless your are PC. And even I am becoming PC on certain topics...Maybe this one might be one of those.

I don't like when people stare. Cause you know they are looking at you wondering why you are crying. It's like they almost want to ask but stop themselves.

I just don't feel comfortable with crying in public. People tend to smother you when you show tears..

Not ashamed to cry in public, although I can't think now for what reason I might be seen doing so in the first place. Crying is definitely good for you. Ever noticed how if you ahven't cried in a really long time (female species :)) you can watch a sad movie and not long in it and the tears are flowing? That's because your body needs that relaease, and in turn releases endorphins, yes. Crying is also a way of releasing grief or stress that you are bearing, which helps in the process of movinf forward from whatever may have been causing you that grief.

    Haven't cried since August 29th, 2004.

That exact day. As long as I can help it, I will never do so again.

What happened to make you cry on that day?

Two days before that, on August 27, 2004, two or three people broke into a house, assaulted and murdered a fifteen year old kid. My best childhood friend was the murder victim. He was hanged from his front porch for his mom to see when she got home from work at 3 a.m. A suicide note was found, but I know it was fake. Authorities seem to think it was real, but that's their job: to think.

Since that day, not a single tear has been shed by me. Not even when my grandfather died two months ago. Then again, I only knew him for about three years, so it was no big impact. Hah... Sounds harsh. but it's true. That's reality.

Gotta keep moving. No dog ever peed on a moving car.

I dont like to cry in public, I mean people stare at you like, "what is her problem?" but if I see someone cry, I am always nice to them...☺ but it is a good thing to cry once in a while, because if you don't you might find yourself screaming your head of at a stranger or a person you love and you will regret it....☺

i think it is only because it lets out all the emotions that have built up for awhile. i always feel better after i cry. i absolutely hate crying in public because that just makes the whole thing worse.

It depends on the people I'm with..
If I'm with total strangers, I'm not ashamed of crying. If I'm with my friends, I'm not ashamed of crying. It's just that sometimes it's too personal, sometimes I just want to be alone,

Why would I cry in public? Besides, last time I cried so much I had puffy eyes and I sounded like I was hyperventialiting. I'd rather not cry 'cause sometimes I can worry myself.

When I weep it is when I am alone and that is often. When I read of a toddler drowning in a family pool I loose it but not in public. A teen dying in a stupid accident, a young girl raped, my heart aches for these people and then I go to my belief system for comfort.

I don't cry in public because I am not a drama queen, and people (unless you have a super reasonable excuse for it) who do cry in public are looking for attention. If you are gonna cry, take it inside, keep your dignity!

i answered no because im not ashamed its just weird to start crying in public and then all of a sudden a bunch of people come and and say "Whats wrong" it just makes it more irritating and makes you want to cry more. so no not ashamed its just weird.
