I guess it's a secular holiday for me but I do celebrate the religious aspects of most holidays. This time of year it's tough as so many cultures had and have winter celebrations. That's why "happy holidays" works just fine for me.
Of course, a very Merry Christmas to you Sister. How can celebrating Christ's birthday be a bad thing?
How amazing that God impregnated young Mary with Jesus; that an angel told Joseph that Mary was pregnant with him, and he married her; and that prophecy was fulfilled at the birth of the Son of God; "For God so loved the world that he sent his one and only son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish, but have eternal life." (John 3:16)
Emmanuel - God with us! The greatest gift!
Anymore people make it less of a holy day and more of just gathering with friends and family for gifts. But I just don't see it as a time to give gifts anymore because people seem to not even be thankful anymore but picky about gifts they get, where they were bought and how much they costed.WA! Grow up people. If you want a specific thing either buy it yourself or go have your family let you pick the item out, within their budget or ask for gift cards.I just have my boyfriend buy me what i pick out.he usually tells me what2get.
It is said to be a holy day to those of the Christian faith. Those who are not religious (such as myself) that still celebrate the day would call it a holiday for obvious reasons.
I'm guessing you mean a relationship with Jesus, right? I do not have a relationship with him, so it wouldn't really be a holy day for me, just time do spend with family and have some time to be calm and quiet. If that was not what you meant please clarify =]
Yes, but I was clarifying your use of the word "religious" because being religious is different than having a relationship with God/Jesus. It really had nothing to do with how you celebrate the holiday :-)
It's the celebration of the bith of Jesus Christ.
And ofcourse it's a little bit of a holiday for me... being with my beloved ones, a nice decorated house, Christmas gifts, lovely food and... no work :D
I think and was taught that Christmas is both a Holy Day as well as a holiday.. as we celebrate the birth of the baby Jesus.. and after all these years A.D. we celebrate the birthday of our Savior, we exchange gifts, put up trees, and lights, stockings by the fireplace, see TV shows about Santa, Riendeer, Grinches` and and Tim Allen by Tradition of scores of years, of custom.. and somewhere at sometimes the entire issue of why Christmas is a Holiday is forgotten in the Festivities of Decorating, planning Xmas Parties, and buying gifts... we should never forget this is the time we Celebrate the Birth of Christ in the Christian World.
Exactly! And the season of Advent is a time of expectancy... of the birth of Christ, his dying on the cross to cover all of our sins and enable us to have a relationship with God, and the expectancy of his coming again! Marantha! Come Lord Jesus, Come!
Absolutely! Beginning with Maundy Thursday, the crucifixion, and Jesus' rising from the grave.... followed by his ascension to Heaven 40 days later! Praise God!
