Is Cheescake an Appropriate Birthday Cake at a Children’s Party?

Catch My Party 2012/07/06 19:00:00
No way! It isn’t even cake, it’s a custard!
As long as it's sweet, the kids will eat.

I was recently at a child’s 3rd birthday party and the only cake served was cheesecake. My daughter wouldn’t touch it and I thought it was a weird choice. Have you run across this and how would you feel about it?

I prefer a more traditional cake, check out some of these gorgeous cakes created by our users!

I was always under the impression the "cake" type was the sole choice of the "birthday boy/girl", if you don't want it; have the ice cream.

When I was a kid, I didn't really like cheesecake. Most children are accustomed to regular cake, so you would be taking a few chances.

Here is the thing. Did the kid whose birthday it was enjoy it? Because most kids have a choice in their cakes, and perhaps this was what she wanted.

I do think it is an odd choice, but if it is my kid, and she wants cheesecake, she will get cheese cake.

I probably would have had a secondary cake for those guests that didn't want/like cheesecake, but that is just me.

I love cheesecake. I've always loved cheesecake. My birthdays for the past few years had been cheesecake. If the kid likes it, let 'em eat it.

If you want only kids to eat a cake, slather it with a bunch of frosting in the shape of some famous cartoon character. If you want the adults to hang out and do something other than watch the time or drop the kiddies off, then provide cheesecake!
Ohh, your daughter's really missing out. Just because it doesn't have gallons of fake sugary chocolate and a brick of frosting on top doesn't mean that it isn't loaded with sugar and other bad stuff....no wait, that came out wrong. ahem, cheesecake rocks!

If the kid wants it, then it's fine. But ask the kid first! And have a smaller, backup cake ready for the munchkins who A - are lactose intolerant or B - just hate cheesecake.

My friends don't like my favourite cake, they say it's not sweet enough, so they can have cookies or ice cream. I'm still gonna have my Sacher Torte!

If the child asks for it, that's one thing but for a childrens' birthday party, no. Why not an ice cream cake or even a cake that is half & half like Baskins Robbins?
It is the child's day not yours

Any cake is appropriate for a birthday as long as the birthday girl / boy like it. I've been to many parties where I didn't like the cake, but that's not my choice so I had to eat something else and deal with it.

I always had cheesecake for my birthday cake when i was a child. I didn't really care if someone had a problem with that because it's my party and they were lucky to even be invited.

Okay, I don't actually believe that as long as it's sweet, kids will eat it. I know that a lot of young children would not eat cheesecake. However, I adore cheesecake. And there are certain children who love cheesecake. And it the birthday child's choice, usually. If they chose cheesecake and their guests don't like it-- tough luck.

However, a three-year-old's party tends to be more for the parents than the children. They're old enough to request cake favours, if they think about it, but it will most likely just be the parents' choice. Third birthdays mostly invite family and family friends (and their kids). And the parents may be entertaining more adults than children.

There are "regular" cakes, ice cream cakes, etc. Doesn't matter as long as the person having the birthday likes it.

Why would it be inappropriate? If the child wants cheesecake for their birthday party, then let them have it. I don't see a problem with seeing a birthday cake being replaced by cheesecake.

I say give it to the parents and give the kiddies the icing covered sponge. They don't care as long as they get the frosted flowers.

You need chillax. Like the person below me said, we're not force feeding them cake and cheesecake everyday. Cake is something for special occassions.
