sockpuppet 2012/06/11 16:03:08Yes+11Given our situation, certainly. And if we weren't such keen capitalists, the whole world would suffer because their economies are inextricably linked to ours. :O)

- rand 2012/06/11 17:44:51No+1...but socialism without capitalism seems doomed to become communism, and that is far, far worse than either. Mankind's prosperity is a product of the combination of science and industry via entrepreneurship and would not have occurred without both.reply

+1How was it a capitalist society? Im wondering, not attackingreply - Heavy Flowers 2012/06/11 17:45:33
It was still run on the idea of free enterprise within the Nazi guide lines. The only difference is the political views held by those in charge.reply - Flowers Heavy 2012/06/11 20:03:32
I disagree. You can't say free enterprise if that system at the same time was carting humans off like cattle to their death, or worse. And, even the non-Jewish people lived in fear of the SS. How can there be free enterprise parallel with such oppression?reply - Heavy Flowers 2012/06/11 20:12:22
Free enterprise describes the type of economic system that is used. Not the political agenda that is enforced on the people. Naziism and Fascism are political systems. Socialism and Capitalism are economic systems.reply - Flowers Heavy 2012/06/11 22:37:56
I don't see how you can separate the two, especially when talking about the nazis. Economic choices were not free, they made decisions based on what they were told to do. If a business made a profit, the SS could come in and take it from them at any time. If hitler wanted a paper mill to build bombs, they couldn't have said simply no thank you... They would have been shot or arrested. That's what I mean, not a free enterprise.reply - Heavy Flowers 2012/06/11 23:36:17
The same thing can happen here in america too. It's called appropriation. Hitler was a good business man who knew that doing so would have made people hate him just like they hated the jews for controlling the money.reply - Red_Horse Flowers 2012/06/11 17:54:40

+2The fact that capitalism hinders the democratic process. America would be great if money didn't control those in power in our government.reply - Red_Horse Heavy 2012/06/11 17:52:47

+1True. But the system of checks and balances has simply become a way for one political mind set to stop the advancement of another. Most people don't like obama but the guy has tried to do something for the country and was blocked at every turn by congress. Sure some of those blocks were good but the line needs to be drawn somewhere. We can't simply let one branch say no any time they feel like it.reply - Red_Horse Heavy 2012/06/11 18:07:49

+1I appreciate the respect and give it where it is due. I don't think obama did it right either but no one is really going to be able to. We should get all incumbents out and personally I think the whole system needs an overhaul. For a government set up for the people by the people, we don't have much of a say. The only thing we can really do is elect someone we hope shares our views and will stick to them in office. With all the free communication that goes on, like this site, why aren't our voices heard.reply - Red_Horse Heavy 2012/06/11 18:18:20

+1I say we should have social media voting. I don't trust our voting system because it can be so easily manipulated. It wouldn't really work because of privacy and people hating other's for their opinions but I haven't come up with a better system. I will though. I spend a lot of time thinking about these things and all it takes it time.reply - Red_Horse Heavy 2012/06/11 22:57:27

+1That's the system we have been using this whole time and it hasn't worked. Main case in point, in chicago more dead people vote than the living. I'm exaggerating but not much. And the recounts make people distrust the system even more. Every time there is a recount there is a new total and people accuse the winner of cheating or buying the vote. In a system like this, if the people don't trust it, it just doesn't work.reply - Red_Horse Heavy 2012/06/11 23:43:48

+1We are the ones who have to create the new system. This one doesn't work so the people need to find a new way to run the country. We don't need the officials to do anything. We need them to go away and let people with some intelligence do the work. But hopefully the world will end either this year or 7 years from now. I don't care which prophecy is right, as long as it ends.reply - Red_Horse Heavy 2012/06/11 23:53:05

+1I vote for chaos. I say no one should vote until we get something that works going. It doesn't really matter who we vote into office because the office doesn't work. You could get Gandhi to be president and it still wouldn't change anything.reply - Red_Horse Heavy 2012/06/12 00:02:05

+1Revolution doesn't have to be violent. I prefer the silent revolution where we simply ignore the government from now on and continue with our lives.reply - Red_Horse Heavy 2012/06/12 00:08:15

+1Yeah you're right. If that happened the government would find a way to insert its self in peoples lives no matter what. I hope you're right about Romney. I hope it's not the last mistake we make before the end of our country.reply - Red_Horse Heavy 2012/06/12 00:28:20
