He loves me, she loves me not, she loves me, he loves me not? This
isn’t exactly the way you pictured yourself gambling with the idea of
who your next “boo” could be. Nowadays we are cyber searching our next
fling from chat rooms, Twitter, Myspace, Facebook, or just some guy or
girl we’ve been peer pressured into dating. Our normative restrictions
of boy meets girl used to limit our options solely to a person of the
opposite sex, with a few exceptions to the rule for those who were
openly gay or lesbian. Years ago there really wasn’t any room for those
who were caught in the middle; bisexuals. Many teens didn’t even know
what being bisexual meant. Thanks to pornography, pop culture, the
metrosexual movement, and new teen fads, being bisexual has sparked an
interest in many teens and has become a fad that’s as popular as wearing
skinny jeans.

No, this phenomenon is way too fringe to be called a 'fad.'
This is the new norm for kids today. Anything sexual is ok. Except that STD's are running at an all time high among our youth. In Wisconsin alone there 253,500 new cases of sexually transmitted infections in each year.
One in four teenage girls in the U.S. has an STD, according to the Centers for Disease Control.
Casual high school hookups have replaced the romance of dating. The media: Kids are being sexualized in ads, movies and on the Internet.
One out of five American teenagers today will be infected with an STD, compared with one out of 47 of their parents.
Girls bear the brunt of STDs. In 2007 the rate of chlamydia among U.S. females, for example, was almost three times the rate among males, a pattern echoed in state data. In Wisconsin the same year, 7,642 cases of syphilis, gonorrhea, chlamydia and genital herpes were reported among females ages 15-19, compared with 2,049 cases among male teens.
Instead of dating and going steady, more high school students talk about “hookups,” casual encounters or flings that encompass anything from heavy petting to oral sex to vaginal sex. No longer do relationships progress from flirting to dating to kissing to petting to going steady to sex. These days, sex can happen first, and then maybe a relationship.“friends with bennies.”

This is absolutely ridiculous. I can not believe that you guys have the audacity to stereotype and question LGBT teens, when these years are especially the hardest. Give them a damn break and mind your own business.

Sadly, it has become that way. Even as a lesbian woman, I am appauled by the ways in which homosexuality and bisexuality (or sexuality at all) is portrayed by popculture, the music and tv industries. It seems as if they are trying to shove the idea down tweens and teenagers throats as the new and cool thing. Children have enough pressure trying to figure out who they are and resisting peer pressures.. they seriously did not need another issue to complicate their identity search!! I believe that we moved way to far past acceptance and adults need to learn more responsibility when it comes to dealing with kids who are so impressionable!

I think it has become quite the fad. Teens these days think its "cool" to be bisexual, and are doing it for all the wrong reasons.

Yes, being bisexual is as trendy for teens as Justin Beiber or Twilight!
I do actually agree with this to some extent. It really does seem more like a "cool thing to do" rather than an actual choice for a lot of younger people. I know that many people are actually bisexual, and that's fine, but I'm pretty sure that a fair percentage of teens are claiming to be bisexual because it's what a lot of people seem to be doing.

I don't know if I'm actually right or not ( I sure I am in some cases) but that's why it's called an opinion. So I voted yes because I think I agree with yes more than I don't.

The big picture: The next generation really doesn't seem to be a fantastic one at this point. Might suck, even. Teenagers these days dress so idiotically, and a lot are incredibly stupid. I'm scared for the future.

NO, NO, NO. God did not intend it that way. Even animals have better sense. I don't think it's right and I loathe people who do it.

It has been a trend for at least the past ten years. Within the herds of kids calling themselves "bi" are the true ones. You'll know five years from now who are the true ones. It's sad that something like that could be a trend. -sigh-

I selected no because being bi is not a new teen fad. It's a fad, but it's been around for several years now.

It's a way for desperate teens to get attention. Most of these pests who claim they are bi would never actually do anything sexual with the same sex.

Since more people are accepting bisexuality (finally) as an ok thing, more teenagers who're starting to explore their sexuality are realising they have feelings for people the same sex as themselves as well as for the opposite sex and they are NOT suppressing them because the grown ups expect them to have a heterosexual partner, get married and live happily ever after, like kids used to be lead to believe. People are much more accepting nowadays. It's not a fad, because people genuinely have feelings for members of both sexs, they're just more likely to act on those desires now because homophobics are a dying breed (Thank heck!)

TBH its just the fact that teens these days have grown up to realise that sexuality doesnt always have to be a one-way thing! .. They dont feel as much pressure to be straight because thats what the oh-so-holy God thinks is right ...
Teens are much more open to experimentation with sexuality and i think its brilliant ...
Anyone who cant accept the fact that love can cross between sexes need to get over themselves :D

A state of mind can't be a fad.
Mini skirts, skinny jeans, high waisted shorts and pokemon are fads.
Being bisexual is not a fad.

#1 you're in the UK.so I don't know how it is there? But I do know the US is more sexually repressed and it's common for teens to rebel and try to create shock factors. There aren't many left after the 60's in the US.
  • Elmo~WA... VERYwis... 2010/09/01 14:46:03 (edited)
British teenagers rebel. I rebel all the time, I just don't pretend to be bi.
That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard of. And I've heard of a lot of stupid thigns! :0
