Being a homophobic racist is much worse. Being a murderer is much worse. Being a terrorist is much worse. Being an insensitive bastard is much worse. Being over-weight has nothing to do with your personality. Think about that.

It's like when someone complains, say, that their hair is frizzy. There are children starving in Africa. People frequently do not put their complaints into perspective.

Wait..Let me clarify..Its in the rotating 'Top 3' of Bad Things 4 U Healthwise..Right there with smoking & drugs..I dont do drugs..I hav a stoogie/cigar maybe 8 times a yr..but other wise I dont smoke..But Im a pretty big guy..400 lbs +..Ive been husky (rmember that term when shopping 4 school clothes when U were a kid)..since I was 10 yrs old..Ive been big ever since..Ive joind a gym, again, to get in shape & with the mindset of losing 200 lbs..I will say that being huge has ruined my life..social life (girlfriendless, Ive never had one).. All the reasonably thin & healthy people look at me like Im 'Shrek' or a Klingon from 'Star Trek'..& of course healthwise, everything hurts from all the weight..my lower back, my knees & feet..I have a family history of diabetes..I dont have it yet..But Y wait B4 I actually do get it, to start to do anything about it..Tired of shopping at Casual Male (the big guys' clothes store..So damn xpensive)..I too would like to shop at Ambercrombie & Fitch, Old Navy & American Eagle someday..I just want to finally be a normal person & be able to do stuff with my 3 young & very active nephews..

Of course not. As many people before me have said being ignorant, homophobic, racist, intolerant, etc. are worse. Accomplishments, humanity, peace and love are what matters. Unfortunately there is always the shallow and the media hammering at us that we're not good enough.

The worst thing, is when people treat people who are overweight like it's the worst thing. Also, when those having a problem with their weight, judge themselves by what they look like at the time, and feel worthless.

There are many, many things that are far worse than being fat. Being overweight isn't a crime, it's a condition that the body of a person is in. Being a pedophile, abusive to others, a thief, a liar, a cheater are all things that are among the most horrible things a person can be. Being fat doesn't make a person dishonest, mean, diabolical or stupid.

“Fat’ is usually the first insult a girl throws at another girl when she wants to hurt her.

I mean, is ‘fat’ really the worst thing a human being can be? Is ‘fat’ worse than ‘vindictive’, ‘jealous’, ‘shallow’, ‘vain’, ‘boring’ or ‘cruel’? Not to me; but then, you might retort, what do I know about the pressure to be skinny? I’m not in the business of being judged on my looks, what with being a writer and earning my living by using my brain…

I went to the British Book Awards that evening. After the award ceremony I bumped into a woman I hadn’t seen for nearly three years. The first thing she said to me? ‘You’ve lost a lot of weight since the last time I saw you!’

‘Well,’ I said, slightly nonplussed, ‘the last time you saw me I’d just had a baby.’

What I felt like saying was, ‘I’ve produced my third child and my sixth novel since I last saw you. Aren’t either of those things more important, more interesting, than my size?’ But no – my waist looked smaller! Forget the kid and the book: finally, something to celebrate!

I’d rather they were independent, interesting, idealistic, kind, opinionated, original, funny – a thousand things, before ‘thin’. And frankly, I’d rather they didn’t give a gust of stinking chihuahua flatulence whether the woman standing next to them has fleshier knees than they do. Let my girls be Hermiones, rather than Pansy Parkinsons.”

I agree. We spend so much time and money trying to be thin and in the end it doesn't make us a better person at all

Exactly. If someone called me fat, I would laugh and shake my head at their ignorance. If someone called me stupid (and really thought I was), I would probably cry.

I'd rather be fat than a homophobic, racist, sexist, evil, shallow, boring, etc, etc.

As much as I would like to lose weight, I would happily stay the weight I am if it means being skinny would make me the things I just mentioned.

It would also make sense for you to simply delete the question rather than whining about the way it is done. I am sure there are hundreds, even thousands of other questions you can answer.
