So as Apple prepares to launch its next iPhone in September, with a slightly bigger screen, here is a prediction—Apple devices will soon project holograms like you’ve never seen. This is not mere speculation, but insight based on Apple’s patents, recent acquisitions, and the business imperative to do something to break free of the tablet clutter.

I want a holodeck. SO BADLY do I want a holodeck.

Keep working on it, Apple. People have been trying to develop holo-technology for years, and if anyone's going to actually design a holodeck in my lifetime, it'll probably be you guys.

Once again, no "Other" option...

I don't think a decent holographic interface will be out in the next 5 years, maybe 10. Proper 3D hasn't even had all the bugs worked out yet (and is still relatively expensive) so why would holograms, especially portable ones, be available any time soon?

On a slightly different note, imagine watching holographic porn... *digital laugh*

I hope not, now even less people will be able to afford the latest apple gadgets. As much as I enjoy using apple products I hate how they keep churning out out-dated technology so frequently. Also, imagine the types of glitches that will come with the generation 1 product? LOL- I'll not pay to be a beta-tester for apple!

Any Apple product that projects holograms will cost quite a fortune right about now, give it 10 years and they will be average household items compared to what they would be now. That would mean that the Apple products [the 1s we have now] will be really cheap in 10 years time.

This stuff we see Tony Stark doing is already developed technology, but it's nowhere near as sophisticated of course.
There's one step that comes before the general public is playing with holograms.

Either Apple or someone else will be there soon technology is advancing at such a remarkable rate in the past few years. Back in the 60';s they said technology double every decade, now it seems to be every year. The advancements are coming such a rate that the public will not be able to keep up with. Already there is a software program used by the government in a semi-secret place that monitors "All" communications and from that builds a complete personal background on every American citizen. This software is so well designed that it can actually grow and learn almost to the point of thinking on its own....it may be possible that a sci-fiction story of a self aware program may actually happen is scary.

Not practical until a stable medium can be found to project the 3-D image into. If you can't walk around it, it's just a flat, quasi-3-D pic.

The technology is really out there but by Microsoft. Google is in the process of bring their to market in 2013. Apple has to wait until the law suit between Samsung and them is resolved. If Apple loses the lawsuit, a very big possibility that the iPhone 5 would get delayed.
