Is an Anti-Energy Drink a Good Idea?

There's Red Bulls, Rockstars and 5-hour Energy drinks if you need a quick kick. But there's also another beverage if you want the opposite effect. Marley's Mellow Mood, named after reggae phenomenon Bob Marley and made in partnership with the Marley family, is an anti-energy drink. And apparently, it's making kids sick.

Last month, some students from a middle school in Holmdel, New Jersey, got sick after buying Marley's Mellow Mood from their school cafeteria and drinking it. One student called it a "zombiefest" while others say they vomited and felt lethargic. The drink -- which contains valerian root, lemon balm, passion flower, hops and chamomile -- has since been removed from school cafeterias that were selling it. Do you think an anti-energy drink is a good idea? And if so, is a school an appropriate place to sell a drink that'll make you feel a bit too relaxed?

This stuff is not for kids, just like energy drinks are NOT for kids... it's perfectly fine, my co-worker drank some today and he was fine.
Stop giving kids stuff they're not supposed to have! why don't you just give kids shots of whiskey while you're at it... People are morons.

Not this way. The herbs are all good. But most of these manufacturers don't know the right amounts or combinations that won't hurt people. What most people don't know is that you really have to know what you are doing to mix some herbs valerian root and passion flower can kill you or make you crazy if they are not done right.

I don't think energy drinks are a good idea either. Eat right and go to bed and sleep at least 6-7 hours, you will be better off.

as with most things....moderation and situation is the key. Without knowing anything about the drink or the company.....with only the meager description of the beverage in the article....I think it is fine....if not efficatious in some situations....Our culture overwhelmingly embraces getting hopped up on energy drinks and coffee....why can't some go the other way?

I imagine the kids that got sick over drank it, or did some form of bong, as usual. Would be hilarious to see what would happen if business execs, investment bankers, and day-trader's usual energy drink was replaced with this.

Isn't alcohol the paragon of all "anti-energy drinks"? We really do need more drivers out there lethargic from Marley's Mellow Mood drink.... I can't believe school cafeterias were selling it.

Yes, because the energy drinks are not only addicting, but they're very bad for you. There are more natural ways to get energy. If people need drinks or pills to do that, something is very wrong.

Marketing wise it sounds like genius. I'm willing to try one but remain highly skeptical that I'll buy them regularly of their mass and/or long-term appeal. I suspect there'll be a small niche of buyers that will require the coke/pepsi guys to get involved and then the fad will subside.

too heavy on the caffine and they seem to be becoming addictive. sound sleep is much better that an energy rush to stay awake and functional during the day.

Sure, why not? One drink to get you up and another to put you down. It should go over great.
