Some reports suggest that by the year 2025, America could have a shortage of 100,000 doctors. Are doctors in the U.S. on the decline?

THEWEEK.COM reports:
ObamaCare is set to expand the number of insured Americans, but an apparent shortage of doctors could make it difficult to treat them all.

Can you blame them for avoiding this profession? Oh I want to be a lawsuit-magnet with a six-figure student loan debt and an average 80 hour-plus work week in a country that has upheld Obama-care.

Yes, you are right! BHO certainly had a hand up as well as hand-outs. But, applaud him for it? I think not! He was groomed by a radical left-wing bunch, who have helped place where he is in order to fulfill their plan for the downfall of this great country of mine, The United States of America. I respect people who defeated their problems on their own, not someone who rides in on a Trojan horse. And I do hope you know what I mean.

I thought they were bankers but no they work for them the institutions and farmaceuticals and knowing that half america doesn't have medical insurance and the half that it has, a quarter have to pay more money than they have for hospitals or any treatment so they don't go to any doctor until on terminal illness,of course there are not sufficient doctors to treat sick people

five causes for the waste: (1) overtreatment of patients, (2) the failure to coordinate care, (3) the administrative complexity of the health care system, (4) burdensome rules and (5) FRAUD.

Yes, we are running short on 'competent' doctors, which is why there are so many liability suits against doctors and the increasing costs of malpractice insurance. The shortage will be more pronounced when Obummercare kicks in, because when doctors are paid through the government, it will be at a discount. There will be a shortage of doctors and the feared health care rationing will become a reality.

Of course there will be a shortage! With so many health professionals saying they will leave their practices when the Affordable Healthcare for America Act (Obamacare) is fully implemented, when compensation for medical services is determined by government bureaucrats, and as the cost of malpractice insurance keeps rising, it could be no other way. Who would put themselves hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt to go to University, 4 years of Medical School, and do a grueling residency (low pay and 24-hour on-call shifts, often getting 2-3 hours sleep a day for those four years), paying high malpractice insurance, doing CME (continuing medical education credits, many hours required each year), and being asked to accept the same or less take home compensation each year as a cop, teacher, or plumber?

The level of ignorance of the general populace in this country is staggering, and the primary peddling of this lack of information, and the propaganda of WRONG information, is almost the sole province of the statist left in this country. As a REAL leader and great President (Ronald Reagan) said, "Well, the trouble with our liberal friends is not that they're ignorant; it's just that they know so much that isn't so."

There could be another side what you are saying is all about money,of the professions you mention the best paying is plumber, the others were meant to be a calling [preachers & priests]
Maybe once the all mighty dollars loses it gleem people will again care for people. Some people love money more than GOD. & THATS VERY WRONG.
  • Jeannie sunniday 2012/08/03 16:06:32

It's not about loving money, it's about needing enough money to pay for your family and be able to pay for their education, so when they grow up, they will be able to pay for their families, and they won't have to be dependent on the government to take care of them. They want to be able to take care of themselves. They want to be able to make decisions for themselves. They want to be independent. They want to be free.

We have more people going into nursing. My son is going to be a nurse.

With the public poisoning of the water with fluoride and chloramine, fracking, using sewage sludge to grow our food in and watering it with non potable water, and spraying chem trails on us, more people are sick and dying. This is Agenda 21 Depopulation and we need more doctors.

Nurse Practitioners are an excellent alternative. They work closely with physicians and are qualified professionals. Many have extensive backgrounds in ICU, emergency room, primary care medicine and the like. Studies to date demonstrate that they are highly qualified, high patient satisfaction and are a complement to any physician's practice. They can help make healthcare more affordable and available especially to those who are doing without. Many focus on disease prevention as well as specialties and are making a difference in the lives of others, Obama care listen up and take note

I don't blame anyone for not wanting that profession. Too many hours, too much paperwork with the insurance companies, and the risk of lawsuits by ungrateful patients is enough to make anyone say no to being a doctor.

We all know the Unaffordable Healthcare Act aims for ultimate single-payer. When the government can control your body and tell you what care you can and cannot receive, it's all over. Besides, we all know his Act aims to rid this country of specialists. Get ready to go to a Practitioner instead of a specialist physician in any given field. And, when you're old, Obama advocates a pill instead of a specialist deciding your care. What a stupido!!!

I can't believe so many people bought his lies:

Don't be silly. The single payer system in Canada and other countries does not let the government control your body. Where does such nonsense come from? The fact it we are badly in need of family practice doctors and any program that help to increase their numbers will benefit us all. My own doctor is all in favor. I have to make an appointment week in advance to see her or if I am sick I can only get to see a nurse practitioner . They write prescriptions and can order tests. We probably should train more of those. So many illnesses do not require the actual medical doctor to see you. Australia used to use nurse practitioners in the Outback where people were separated by miles.
And in case you haven't noticed when there is nothing more a hospital can do for the very ill they send you home and advise you to call Hospice. If that is not the death watch I don't know what is. All care is withdrawn and the patient is doped to the point of not eating and drinking. That tends to get you off the book quickly.

Your doctor is in the minority, many have already quit with all the red tape. The ACA is creating 44 NEW bureaucracies, count them, 44!! Believe me, you haven't seen anything yet. And, please don't compare Canada to the U.S. We count ALL mortality rates and don't pick and choose as other countries do. As well, Canada is more of a homogenous society, i.e., white and not obese and have a population of roughly 34 million versus our 310 million. To compare them to us is silly. The State of Illinois has more MRIs than ALL of Canada. Get real. They rarely use helicopters like the U.S. does for major trauma transport, the list goes on...

Hospice will be a booming business once the tentacles of Obamacare take over. In case you haven't noticed, the vid I posted had nothing to do with hospice. This woman went on to live and is still living!! If Obama wants to take a pill, go for it. I, for one, don't need this guy getting in between me and my doc.
  • Jeannie gocar 2012/08/03 16:14:36

The only time a patient is referred to Hospice, is when all that can be done, has been done. After all, believe it or not, even the best physician in the world cannot keep a patient alive forever. The simple fact is that death still comes to all of us. Medicine has not come up with a cure for that yet. Hospice is a blessing for the terminally il. They care for you and only give you medicine to ease your body, not to drug you senseless.

Those that decide to stay in their profession are turning to Concierage Medicine which means only the rich can afford them! I don't blame them!
  • Boo l 2012/08/01 16:46:02

I do. True physicians aren't supposed to be in the profession to get rich, which is how it's been for over half a century now. It was a humanitarian profession from its inception until the 20th century. Even in the early 20th century, doctors accepted barter in payment from patients they knew were poor and could not afford to pay. With the entry of health insurance and medical malpractice insurance the cost of healthcare has been steadily driven up, and that hasn't stopped. Most cannot afford the level of care we have come to expect these days, even with insurance. My co-pays are unbelievably high, and the reason they are is because of insurance companies, and let's not forget Big Pharma!

Who would want to borrow several hundred thousand dollars to study for 8-10 years and intern for several more to be a good old fasioned doctor. (Years more time and additional debt to become a specialist)
All this so they can be abused by the US government pushing Medicare , Medicaid and additional Obamacare / welfare Patients at fee levels that do not come close to their cost to operate.

Why do you think there are more Veterinarians popping up all over the place ....?
