Some reports suggest that by the year 2025, America could have a shortage of 100,000 doctors. Are doctors in the U.S. on the decline?

THEWEEK.COM reports:
ObamaCare is set to expand the number of insured Americans, but an apparent shortage of doctors could make it difficult to treat them all.

Can you blame them for avoiding this profession? Oh I want to be a lawsuit-magnet with a six-figure student loan debt and an average 80 hour-plus work week in a country that has upheld Obama-care.

But not enough of them are Americans and I mean from the USA not another country. I have personally seen some that need to go back to school or get out of that field. They don't seem to care about your medical problems anymore and won't give you answers. It seems like all they are there for is the money and they charge way to much!

The Obama team will no doubt replace our American medical school trained physicians with those trained in third world countries.... You can believe they do not have any near the medical knowledge that people trained here have.... Not based on ethnicity but on the the excellence and knowledge gained in an American medical school. Any faculty intone will tell you the same, if he is honest.

A lot of doctors are going elsewhere and older doctors are retiring because of Obamacare coming in! We've had a shortage but not as bad as we are going to see it over the next two years!

That would change if we subsidized education, No one can convince me Socialized medicine leads to a shortage of Drs since Cuba and The USSR had more Drs than anywhere else NOT socializing education is the problem

Cuba has substandard medical care for the masses, a select few get better. Caste went elsewhere for cancer...wonder why. The USSR does not exist anymore in case you have not noticed. And I have person information that their socialized medicine is not so social since if you want "good care" which means a better chance of surviving, you pay a better physician under the table cash... A lot of cash. So much for free medical care.

My point wasn't that Cuba has a perfect system only that it did not decrease the number of Doctors. I could not find any evidence Castro went anywhere else, but even if he did I'm sure it was still within a socialized medical sytem since all civilized countries have one, but I will note Chavez chose Cuba for treatment when he found out he had Cancer
I know The USSR no longer exist, but the doctors still do, much of the medical care in middle eastern countries is provided by russian DRs

If it's not at this time, wait until obamacare comes into play then we will see lots of them leaving.I remember in England we lost a lot of our Doctors, because of the healthcare and they left to come to America,as money was better, then we landed up with so many Pakistan Doctors and I could not understand mine to me it was a nightmare.

That's happening here already and it's really bad when you can't understand your doctor, and another thing I have found in the younger ones is they don't like a woman's input! MY husband has been sick for many years, I've had problems with doctors insisting on putting him on medications that we know he reacts badly too. They've either avoid me as they don't like being told their wrong or I get "Well it's the drug of choice!" I've had one tell me if I don't like it take him home!

Sounds to me like you need to find a better doctor, sometimes I know it hard but shop around..Find one that you both like, best thing to do is,make a appointment and talk to the doctor to see if he will fit with you both ..That's what I did,now I have a doctor that will listen to me and not shove me out the door in 5 mins lol he dare not I would kick his ass lmao.I have been with him now for 15 years.even when the insurance changed and he did not take the new insurance I stuck with him and he gave me a deduction on the office visit so i could stay with him...Best doctor in the world!!!

On that one we didn't have a choice, it was a hospice doctor and he was in their facility. Would come in at 6 AM so the families weren't there, well I spent the night sleeping in a chair in the room! Boy was he shocked to see me there. I did have my husband set to the VA hospital that afternoon. I always go in with him to the doctors. The one I told was giving my husband the wrong medication did not like my speaking up (this was in a different hospital) he said "well bring a list in and show me" I whipped out my ipaq and said "OK, Let's go over it!" LOL showed him what he wasn't giving him! He avoided me after that!

Good for you!!! People need to speak up now and again!! I take care of the elderly and one person I was taking care of got really sick and was told to mtell her to prepare her for death.I told them to take her off some of the meds that I had been trying to have her come off for years but what do I know, anyway long story short 7 years later she is well and doing better than before..Just goes to show that some people see better than what the doctors see, they forget we the caretakers see the clients more than they so we can see what goes on in a day to day setting..

Yep how can you determine how a person is doing in a 15 to 30 minute visit? The caretaker is with them a lot longer and knows! Thanks God the VA doctor listened to me and asked me questions when he could not figure out what was wrong and was fixing to put him back in ICU and was warning me that we may loose him. In our conversation he asked if he ever was on prednisone in the past, I said he was on it steady when he went into the Hospice care center and the doctor said that's the problem in their records they weren't giving it to him and that's something you don't stop cold! He ordered a big shot of it and Rod didn't have to go to ICU! By the next day he was much better. By the way I'm not putting down Hospice, they are great and he's on a different one now, but it was just that doctor at that one care center and few nurses that were trying to hide things from me.

Absolutely! America's doctors are moving out of the U.S.A. to greener and cheaper pastures; to countries where patients can pay lower fees to get well. It's becoming too expensive to become be a doctor in America and that's very sad.

Are we short on doctors? No. We are short on American doctors. We have made it very hard for our own kids to get into college. When the smoke cleared after 911, Bush lifted the ban on Arab travelers and students from that nation and as soon as he did we got an influx of something in the range of 33% to 60% Arab students enrolled in our college. So we all struggle to try and figure out how we can pay to get our kids to college and we have our government handing education to Arabs and Illegal aliens for free, well, free for them. We get to pick up the tab. Some go back to their nations, but not many. They stay but they can leave at any time. The point is educate our kids. Piss on the rest of the world. Let them educate their own kids or let them stay stupid. This matters too much to government.
They are worried about some 3rd world country and we have kids dropping out.

It would make me pass out from surprise if we had an election year where the candidates simply told the truth about what they were going to do if they are elected and if they made accusations about their opponent, they proved that they were true instead of just putting it out there and leaving it to the individual to check it out themselves and run the risk of getting more untrue information.

The oppressive nature of Obamacare has led to an exodus from the medical field by thousands of Physicians. We can and shpuld repeal Obamacare and train MORE Doctors. There's no shortage that can't be resolved by positive reform.

I personally really don't know what ObamaCare is or what's wrong with it mainly because I don't know what it's all about and the main reason for is cuz I don't watch tv news anymore, it's much to depressing. But the majority of people are agsint it so must be alot with it. Obama is a terrible president.

The POTUS and the Surpreme Court just unleahsed the largest tax increase on the middle class in history. Of course Obeyme says it's not a tax but a fine if you do not buy it.
