Is a baby that is on a strict schedule happier than a baby that is on a flexible schedule?

It seems the opening question to mommy meetings is no longer
'Hey, How are you doing? What is your name and your baby's name?' Instead, the first question to an afterhour mommy and me class is 'Does HE sleep through the night or Is he on a feeding schedule?'
This may seem to be an ice-braker to most, but for the frazzled and weary eyed it is very much a loaded question. Your answer is usually ignored, yes, ignored by the self righteous mother can chew your ear off with tideous details about her son Johnny's sleeping schedule, mmmkay. This same person, who was soiled with spit up and whose spirit was sullen until she was given the opportunity to PROFESS her marcels of child rearing wisdom, has gone on to lecture a small group of first time mothers about the importance of feeding their infants 8oz every three-to-four hours. Her Johnny boy, I should add, is very much a butterball that hardly smiles.

SO I hate to burst bubbles here, but I will ... POP POP POP ...

This well read mommy has learned that there are those who schedule, those who feed on demand and others who meet in the of the middle road, which is moi, as in compromise feeding amounts and sleeping times with the intention of keeping both mommy and baby very happy.

Still the jury is out ... and I'm curious to hear from mothers of two, three, or four kids about whether a child on a schedule results in a happier baby versus raising a baby a flexible schedule?

Thanks for your time ladies!
