In recent history most definitely but in the overall history it ranks up there but there but probably not the saddest... I give that to Black Tuesday. The day that ruined the lives of many if not most Americans... It went on to effect the economy of most of the world...
Are you kidding me? With all my love to the Beatles music, how can you conpare the murder of John Lennon to almost 3000 dead people and the WTC, the Pentagon falling down, and the crash of Flight 93 in terror attack? Is the life of John Lennon worth more than 3000 people's lives?
Everyday the Vietnam draft was issued
Pearl Harbor
The day the English first arrived at Jamestown
The day everybody at Jamestown starved
When the "Americans" slaughtered Native Americans
...but it is one of many that we've endured, and more than likely will have more added to the list. Wish it wouldnt work out that way, but that's life....
my saddest day in history is when i discover we the american help nazi german in the eugenic and euthanasia program that kill many German people with disabilities... that help was the blue print for the T4 program and later on became to be the blue print for the holocaust
why? because our own govt showed that it cares only for warmongering and the loss of life was just "collateral damage' in their rush for profits and empire building.
If the air can only Talk... to many sad stories in USA History, many unknown as well... We just remember the ones that we went thru personally, but asked the ones that went thru similar situations that we were not present or remember, or known...
From a world history vantage, "no". From an American history vantage, absolutely. Since the population of the U.S. is a small percentage of the total, I voted "no". As an American, of course I'd say "yes".
I'd say they mucked it up in "how" they retaliated, but I'm not sure what you intended to say. Going after Bin Laden made sense. The War in Iraq was a ruse.
That's what I mean hunting Osama made sense even attacking the Taliban for aiding Al Qaeda made sense but the whole Iraq thing just seems like bush jr trying to do what his daddy couldn't.
Bush and Rumsfield even screwed up by not getting Bin Laden at Tora Bora which may well have kept us out of Afghanistan for the following years. Bin Laden had an unwitting ally in Bush in his attempts to bring down the U.S. economy.
There is a serious danger in electing people who subscribe to fantasies, as do fundamentalists (I'm a philosophic Christian). First, they think they are in possession of the Truth and need not learn anything else, but secondly (see below): Though I'm a fiscal conservative Goldwater Republican, I can't vote for someone in denial about the most serious crisis our species has faced, anthropogenic climate change, or for someone who subscribes to the fantasies of Joesph Smith; so I suspect I'll vote for Gary Johnson, the candidate who can afford to tell his truth rather than try to pander to our egoistic natures.
“At a 1971 dinner, Reagan told California legislator James Mills that ‘everything is in place for the battle of Armageddon and the Second Coming of Christ.’ The President has permitted Jerry Falwell to attend National Security Council briefings and author and Armageddon-advocate Hal Lindsey to give a talk on nuclear war with Russia to top Pentagon strategists.” “Grace Halsell’s Prophecy and Politics: Militant Evangelists on the Road to Nuclear War,” by E. Johnson in Journal of Historical Review (Winter 1986).
It was, but being lied to, and sheepishly led into, the 2003 Invasion of Iraq for another occupation were 15,000 of our troops have died, plus almost double that of our people have committed suicide here from this false war, and over a million of other innocent lives have been lost over there, on top of that were millions more will die and will suffer horrific birth defects in future generations because of us using depleted uranium in Iraq, not even to mention the hundreds of thousands of our people that have been maimed for life…kind of trumps what ever happened at 911 and even will trump our other being lied to false war of Vietnam war. Pathetic but true. All this after we committed hugh atrocities on the Native people of this lands of the new americas and Wow, what 'We' have done to the rest of the world. since our conception of the u.s.
