1. Did this homosexual young man know the rules before he signed up?
2. Did he deliberately break the rule?
3. Is the "You are stupid..." comment, more about disobedience and flaunting authority? Or perhaps the method in which he decided to break the rules?
Many times issues are muddied by so many other factors. Before I blindly make a comment on limited information, I would like to know many other factors such as, (a) how was this man's performance prior to going public about his homosexuality. Had he broken many ohter rules because he didn't feel they were fair or went against the grain? That type of person would not make a very good soldier when obedience is a prime directive. Perhaps he was a model soldier, but I don't know. Was this a "last straw" type of incident? I certainly want more facts before I become inflammatory.
Ironically, this policy was instituted by Clinton and liberals lash out at conservatives who are against homosexuality.
I think they should not have discharged this man. If he was a good soldier. He probably should not have done the interview knowing the policy but my God, we need good soldiers.
Actually, It's my opinion that the soldier involved will attempt to use this as a sort of test case in order to overturn the policy.
First of all sweetheart, ask is not a four letter word. If you're going to insult someone else's intelligence, make sure you're not dimmer than they are.
Second of all, the "don't ask, don't tell" policy is obviously bigoted, not to mention outdated, so why are you getting behind it? And why shouldn't this Iraq veteran try to overturn the policy?
In Canada, it's not illegal to hurt people's feelings, but it is illegal to persecute a minority group based on pure hatred or concentred bigotry, i.e. the church preaching their slanted, homophobic views on gays.
So sorry you've wasted your life in the closet trying to keep mommy and daddy happy, but I think it's time to face the music. We all know you're a little fanny bandit. But I guess your kind must love having the "don't ask, don't tell" policy to cower behind, don't you?
You read Canadian news, then have the gall to tell me to "keep my Canuck nose out of your business"? Typical American Idiot, clearly.
They are willing to fight for their country, that should be all that matters and it's more than many other people are willing to do!
