It has to do with Maryolitry and the idea Mary was immaclatly conceived like Jesus and it is a lie of the devil- the Bible rtecords Mary had many other children also- this would raise Mary up to the di.vine level and is blasphemy from a religion that is filled with blasphemy and claims to be Christian but is the "great whore" in Revelation

It's not a "lie of the devil", it's just different... all religions adapt from other religions. I kind of like the myth, since it makes Mary like somewhat of a goddess figure. Most Christian beliefs and traditions are based in Paganism anyway.

That Mary who was the mother of Jesus was free of original sin and was born immaculate with no sin on her soul.
Actually the raising of Mary in the eyes of the Catholic Church came about because the evangelicals were trying to convert to Christianity so many cultures that were used to goddesses. It was sort of like throw the dog a bone by explaining that Mary as the mother of god was sinless and therefore should be prayed to an can with her son on behalf of sinners.
The whole concept is very primitive.

Immaculate means perfect, so, a perfect conception. The term, however, is used by the Catholic church to Mary as being free of original sin, from of her conception. I don't know if other Christian faiths hold onto immaculate conception or not... it always struck me as kind of odd, since it makes Mary something to be worshipped as well, which seems defiant to Christianity and more similar to Paganism. I don't think that's a bad thing, though... I just find it interesting how all the varied faiths are so similar and yet so different.

Yes, I would like you to find me a 15 years old today who would claim being made pregnant by a ghost. Only a very superstitious and primitive people would believe such a thing.

I like your definition better that the one I was taught. But Original sin is the Catholic equivalent of Karma, except that Catholics don't believe in Reincarnation.

No sorry, Mary was not conceived by god but she was absolved of the original sin that caused her to be conceived by her mother. What a lot of old cod's wallop really? The premise that sex itself is a sin and therefore the child born as a result of the act is born into sin and with sin on it's soul. How much more convoluted can something get?
