this_____+8The belief that the Virgin Mary was conceived and born without original sin, and did not require baptism to confer Sanctifying Grace.

(Christianity) the Roman Catholic dogma that God preserved the Virgin Mary from any stain of original sin from the moment she was conceived
Actually the raising of Mary in the eyes of the Catholic Church came about because the evangelicals were trying to convert to Christianity so many cultures that were used to goddesses. It was sort of like throw the dog a bone by explaining that Mary as the mother of god was sinless and therefore should be prayed to an can with her son on behalf of sinners.
The whole concept is very primitive.
