Depends on why he hit her? Maybe she cheated on him? If so.. well I wouldn't be as mad at him as I would be if he just hit her for no reason. Not saying that it's okay for a guy to hit a girl if she cheats on him but I would understand the pain and stuff and try to talk to him and his parents.

i was abused for most of my childhood and in my early 20's as well so if any man laid their hands on my two girls, i'd go beat the crap out of them and make sure they aren't breathing, i am not afraid of any man after what ive been through, and i'm stronger and my girls know not to take crap from anyone!

before I called the cops I'd ask her why he hit her, and depending on her answer I may still have a talk with him... said talk could become an attitude adjustment of sorts if warranted... if not he would certainly be going to jail for assault
