Never been there, have lost a job and could not find anything similar so I cleaned houses, mowed lawns, scrubbed sinks, cleaned grease traps - there is work if people are willing to do it.

I am also a country lad and am able to forage.

If you live by the coast then you will never go hungry ;)

There is nothing I wouldn't do, except stealing or defrauding others, for my kids.

Been in the boat,, I became a recycler,,, alluminum cans...Made pretty good money, Mowed lawns,, washed windows at the mall,, Detailed cars for car dealers,,, aint no such thing as No Job.......Never been on welfare either... If one wants to work and earn a living, there are many things they can do on their own,, instead of set around and complain...

I agree, there is work if willing to do it. I do know that I made enough pimento cheese (grind the cheese, chop the pimentos, and mix with mayo in, what can only be called, vats -lol) for sandwiches that I literally cannot eat it now. Cleaned houses, scrubbed floors in companies, and so on - never took a dime from welfare or family

I came to Florida 35 years ago,, Just shortly after I retired from the Army.. Back then retirement pay was under 500 per month.. I lived in a tent on the beach at Fort Desoto park , My transportation was my motorcycle,, I went to plant city and took a job on one of the strawberry farms.. Hard backbreaking work..managed in 2 months to get enough money together to rent an apartment,,, I noticed some of the apartments needed attention so I made a deal with the manager to clean, paint and repair the apartments when the became vacant for my rent.. I continued picking berries, in a few more months I had enough money to start my own automobile detail business... around 300 invested,, in two years I was employing 10 people and making good money providing a service that is need everywhere a used car is sold.... I sold that business and went into the auction business,, Hustled 24/7 for 15 years,,, sold that business and totally retired... All one has to do is get off their ass and put their minds to work... My hobby now is a firearms instructor,, make a few grand a year off it, Just a hobby though,, and Yard sales.. I make more in some of my yard sales than some people make on their jobs LOL

You got it - iPads, iPhones , computers, big flat screens - using taxpayer money for booze, gambling, tanning salons, and so on - I am with you, makes me furious.

    Have a good one

Get out and hustle and find a job. No one can tell me jobs are not out there. It is just a question of what you will do to feed your family. Having had 27 jobs during my working years you can best bet they were not all fun. Most were hard manual labor work. I could have cared less. I made honest money and put food on the table. I worked in crappy jobs a lot of folks these days would not do, from a glass factory to a steel factory to a soap factory to warehouses of all kinds to Yard maintenance driving truck, and than some office type jobs. Worked for the county, worked for a city, worked for the Federal Government. Got laid off many times but always found something else.

Bravo to you as well Jackie, one does what one needs to do to feed the family.
What gets me is we have children working the fields in California because the growers cannot find people to pick. The illegals have gone home like so many wanted them to, so where are the folks that cannot find a job? Oh your waiting for the executive position, well guess what those are few and far between.
It is honest work, here is your gloves go for it................

Agree, my son worked taking out barbed wire fencing in the heat and the bees and the ants and the snakes in Texas and shoveled Milo from the silos to the rail cars - he needed money and no jobs in his field (the electronics bubble burst) - in his words, and yours, honest work.

California has very high unemployment - but, when people are paid not to work, they do not work. I was raised that it was shameful to take charity, it was for people who literally could not work not for able bodied people.

    Hey, have a great day

We have that problem here. I have friends that own blueberry farms and they cant get an American White man or woman to pick the berries....I once was the manager of Maid service in Military on base Hotels for visiting families,, You think I could hire an average white american citizen.. No,, most were Korean, or east Indian....

Perhaps it is my own bias but there was a time people in this country grabbed any job they could get there hands on because as Jackie stated you did not take a hand out if you had any opportunity to do it yourself. The current ME generation all want to be the boss, or have the toys. What they don't realize is that being the boss is a lot harder and the hours are very long, and the toys no one takes them when they leave this world.

All I would do is exactly what I did when I got "retired". I simply spent more of my time investing and working for myself to make enough money to pay bills and continue doing what I wanted to do on a monthly basis. It was no big deal but short term capital gains aren't much fun... Best part is I am working right now...
