If you got a letter in the mail that said your neighbor was a registered sex offender, would that change your opinion of him/her?

Well, it would depend on the situation that made him register as a sex offender. I know an 18 yr old kid who had to register b/c his g/f's parents didnt like him very much and one time came home and caught the kid in bed with their 16 yr old daughter. Statutory rape charges were brought against him and he now has to register as a sex offeneder despite the fact it was consensual sex between the two of them.

There should have been another option. I would need to know about the particular case to know how I would regard the neighbor. The system is unreliable. I would not take its word at face value about the moral integrity of anyone.

Depends on what the crime was exactly. If he or she slept with a seventeen year old at twenty, probably not. If he or she slept with a twelve year old as an adult, probably.

Someone cannot make a legal decision to say yes if they are under age. It is still rape under the law even if she said yes.

There needs to be an other option. I would find out why they are a registered sex offender. I knew someone who was 17 dating a 15 year old she turn 16 he turned 18 her parents hated him called the cops on him he is a registered sex offender they later got married... so umm yeah.

I would find out exactly what they were charged with before I made a full judgement. For example, an 18yr old having sex with his 16yr old girlfriend wouldn't send up any flags, but anything else would irrevocably change my opinion.

Anytime I hear of someone who has spent time in prison it changes my opinion of them. But, I'm sorry, I don't cut any slack for sex offenders. They don't belong in society.

There's a man who lives down the street from me who's a registered sex offender. I don't consider it that big of a deal because, for all I know, it could have been something that happened decades ago and something he acknowledges as a mistake

I would acquire a gun. I'd also find out what their crime was. If it were rape or child molestation I would watch my neighbor carefully. There are no sex offenders on my block , but they do live near me. I've seen one of them at the bus stop that apparently kidnapped a child.
