If you get stabbed in the stomach, how likely is it that you'll die?

I know the Samurai did something like that (forgot the technical term), but does it need to be done a certain way?

I guess it depends what the stabber does with the knife once he/she has stabbed you. My aunt stabbed and killed an intruder that broke into her home. She stabbed the intruder in the stomach with a kitchen knife and then began to vigorously move the knife in a up and down and side to side motion until the perp went to the floor. He died on the operating table while trying to sew him back up the surgeon found his intestines were cut to pieces massive blood loss undigested food and fecal matter were found inside him so yes it is very likely that you will die

I got extremely lucky when suffered a stab wound to the stomach. I bled a lot just from that one wound and the pole that stabbed me went diagonally through my chest to my back. I stayed there for about 6 hours before it was removed. If I had removed it imediatly I'd be dead

Depends on Where and how deep. The Samurai impaled themselves on their swords, It is brutal. Now if you don't want to die painfully like that, I would suggest starting from the middle of the wrist and travelling up to the end of the elbow. You'll lose feeling, perhaps even consciousness within minutes. Stomach impalements or stabs are painful, agonizing, & slow.

Are you giving me suicide tips, brah? T_T
  • YourCom... 666_Mag... 2013/02/11 17:19:28
Personally a good overdose of pills is less messy and probably less painful.

Wtf....? No. I don't want to die yet. I haven't been pushed far enough. I have been before, but I was able to fix it, now I'm getting there again, though. It doesn't seem as fixable. And if I was to commit suicide, it would be Samurai style. (ㅡ_ㅡ*)

Yes it does. But it's an extremely painful and lingering way to die. The samurai were often beheaded once the they had cut their stomachs. If you want it to be quick and only sting, go deep from the right side of your neck with a shaving sharp knife round to your wind pipe. Death in 3-4 minutes. Very tough on carpets. But there is no point in doing this. You will leave a lot of people behind who are going to be very upset.

It's hara-kiri, and, yes, it should be done a certain way if you don't want to die an ugly and lingering death. Gut-death is supposedly one of the most painful ways to die.

I never thought about the specifics -- I wonder if there's a manual. Practicing doesn't seem like a good idea.

Do you mean the stomach organ or the abdomen? If it's a puncture to the organ, may not be so bad. An American civil war soldier that was shot in the stomach (organ) survived with a hole for many years and was used to study digestion. If it's in the abdomen and the guts, depends if anything vital is hit, but there would be lots of bleeding and chance of infections increase. Either way, depends on how quickly you get medical attention.

A disgraced samari would commit hari kari, or seppuku, to keep his honor. He would plunge his tanto into his left side and drag the blade to his right, slicing open his belly.

If you don't die, you'll end with peritonitis, and permanent colostomy. Its nasty....
  • Shackleford42 2013/02/11 03:49:04
It depends where you get stabbed, there is a chance you will survive if all vital organs are missed, but there are quite a bit of them in the stomach area
  • LMA 2013/02/11 03:40:52
That depends, In the stomach it self, I will take some time to bleed out, With medical attention not very likely. How ever if by stomach you mean gut region. Well now we are talking about several vital organs. In the spleen not likely, Kidneys or bladder good possibility as they would release toxins into the blood once punctured. Liver you could survive, Intestine would require emergency surgery but you would live. It also depends on weather or the knife is removed. If left in you have a much better chance at survival as long as you get medical attention.

Oh it would surely be fatal, eventually. But first, you would get to endure a long, miserable, and lonely period of pure agony!
  • Icon 2013/02/11 01:58:40
It's very likely, if you don't get immediate medical aide. Not just from blood loss by also from septicemia. It's a makes for a slow and very painful death.

A two inch knife wound to the stomach can kill you, if it its the major artery.. Hari Kari, was when one killed himself in a ritual.,. they run the tanto knife into the stomach and drew it up and then went cross way to insure they cut the aorta for fast bleeding to death..

I think thats seppuku but that used long swords....It depends how big and deep the wound is. If you just get stabbed by a switchblade or a knife, you probably live

It depends on how deep the wound is, where it is, and how large it is.
  • Willow 2013/02/11 00:05:13
Well, for one thinks stabbing the side would allow more blood to flow because of major arteries strewn throughout your stomach area. The lower you get the more fluids will flow, but not necessarily blood. Your best bet is between the fourth and fifth ribs.
  • Willy 2013/02/11 00:00:11
I think you have to twist the knife, and it hurts like hell, a slow painful death.
  • Keith 2013/02/10 23:58:46
Chances aren't that good to survive. Bleeding, infection are main risks.

You just made me laugh, but I'm serious. LOL I learned that when I worked in the Physical Therapy department of the hospital. You die very quickly from a stab to the stomach because it tears all the linings and the stomach acid goes everywhere. You can't surgically fix that usually, and certainly not before death.
