Canadians, a few of us should get together, pool our money and buy a tropical island somewhere. I'm sick of the fact that our ancestors chose this land because of it's abundance of natural resources without considering first that there may be warmer places with natural resources as well.

To move somewhere else. Good in theory but very difficult to do in real life. Housing market sucks, can't sell and even recoup my investment, and my house is paid in full.

It would be lovely to just move somewhere else. Unfortunately, that isn't a possibility sometimes, such as in the situation where you need a work visa to work in another country. My community is full of friendly people and it's a pretty area. I'd just rather live in a different country. Since I can't do that, I simply visit that country as often as possible. That's my second-best option.

If you are able, move to a place you think you will like better or make the best of where you do live.

Look at some third world or totalitarian countries and realize that even on your worst day it is better then the crap others have to deal with.
Unless of coarse you live in a Third world country or under a totalitarian regime, then you have my sympathy.

Learn to by finding the best in what you have. If you have enough money, do some research, and go somewhere else. The vast majority of us can't afford to pick up and leave anymore. Honestly, I don't like where I live now. But realizing that this is where I live, and reminding myself that we came here to be close to our parents as they age, and be of help to them, I have gotten myself in many groups and efforts aimed at improving our community, and I think of the positive aspects of what's here. The wonderful people in my family, at my parish, at the KOC, etc., and the incredible number of great restaurants, and entertainment opportunities here. The mild winters help too. The summers are absolutely brutal. I just live essentially indoors from June through August.

Well, if it's beyond your control, just do what ya can with it to try to make it even a little better. If not, then you should consider going elsewhere to find happiness.
