There might be some believers who are able to find peace and happiness in giving it all over to God and thus not worrying about anything. But the world's population of Buddhists who do not believe in God should more than balance that out.

Of course the god to which I refer is Gandhi's "God of Truth". Living a relativistic life is not preferable to living a life with faith in reason and the Truth of reality.

Rather, the kingdom is inside of you, and it is outside of you. When you come to know yourselves, then you will become known, and you will realize that it is you who are the sons of the living father. But if you will not know yourselves you dwell in poverty and it is you who are that poverty.” Jesus

“If we are not hampered by our confused subjectivity, this our worldly life is an activity of Nirvana itself.” Mahayana Sutra

“When one perceives impermanence, the perception of no-self is established. With perception of no-self, the conceit of “I” is eliminated, and this is nirvana here and now.” The Buddha

My life is pretty kick ass, and I am Atheist.

Minus the people who discriminate against you because you are Atheist.

I think religion fills a void that some people have or gives them answers to questions they can't find themselves. I don't think everyone has this void and have come to their own conclusions and live a great life without a belief in god.

LOL-I don't think you need to be someone you are not. That is much to exhausting and mentally draining. Aren't we all supposed to stick to the vocabulary of our generation so that people can easily identify how old we are? ;-)

I like the Bible for their stories and some moral guidance, but some people use it as a historical account. While some of the accounts are spot on, many are left out (think of all the prophets the early Church decided to omit because it didn't fit their exact rhyme and reason or how the Catholic church (ab)used the Bible as a tool to subjugate others) and an exact timeline can't be determined. "Hey, the BIble's only X-thousand years old, thus the world can only be X-thousand years old!" They say that other historical books and scientific evidence are flawed because 1)it's not in the Bible 2)it was written by man, thus flawed...yet, a Book of scriptures and documents written by men over hundreds/thousands of years is "inspired by God." Maybe it was or maybe someone exaggerated a historical figure's role or maybe the 'inspiration' was some 'special' food/drink/smoke.
Close-minded sheeple will cling to one (group of) source(s) and reject all others as flawed.

I think that if you are trying to live a good life is more important than if you believe in god or not.

I have actually heard of psychologists and sociologists studying this type of thing before. They must of been bored and hard pressed for a dissertation topic. I do not remember specifics, and I am too lazy to research it, but I do remember that some data suggested that faith tends to have a placebo effect in psychology on happiness, similar to the placebo effect on wellness that has been noted in medicine.

If you are into that kind of thing I am sure you can dig up some journal articles on it, if you can manage to get through the abstracts and research questions without falling asleep.

I know a very well know psychologist who says that there are more psycholitics in the deeply religious than any other group in society.

OK, give me the DOI number, publishing journal, date, and page numbers and I will look up the study of this "well known" psychologist and his research.

I know a drunk guy at a truck stop that says he can get up to mach 5 or roller skates too.
