Actually, that's really a hard choice. I love them both. I love the rustic wood and the clean tidiness of brick. Maybe one house built with both.

My grandparents had a log cabin in Houghton Lake in Michigan.. My grandfather built is and many others throughout Michigan because of his business.
This cabin was so warm in the winter and no need for Central Air in the summer.
If they were allowed here in our town I'd have one but they are not allowed.

My preference would be a log cabin, but bricks would be ok too. Depends more on where it was and whether I liked it otherwise. I'd actually thought about a straw bale house at one point.

Contrary to popular belief log cabins are not very energy efficient. I would build mine out of Adobe bricks, highly effecient material, cool in the summer warm in the winter.

That's the very reason for me. Cool in the summer and very easy to heat efficiently in the winter. Skylights for natural light. Blend in to the landscape. Depending on location you have wisteria, jasmine, honeysuckle or some other fragrant vine draped over the front. I like the bottom one the best but I would probably face it with natural stone and have the deck cedar or redwood.
