It is a lot worse in other countries. The USA is not a panacea of wonder. If I lived in the middle east, or communist china, or Kenya where 8 million people are starving, any country with resources would look fabulous.

America is the land of opportunities. You should see the long lines of people queueing up to get a visa to come to the USA in front of US Consulate General buildings in Mexico, India, Philippines, Dominican Republics, etc. People start gathering at 1 AM even if the Consulate does not open until 9 AM. Americans have higher standards of living compared to many countries including the European ones even if we have a high unemployment rate at the moment (not as high as Greece at 22% or Italy at 11%). We, as Americans, could do better than right now and we will get better, I am confident, as soon as we have a new President.

Our country maybe in bad shape, but their countries are a lot worse. When you see pictures and videos of how the people live, you realize you have it pretty good compared to them.

I think I read somewhere that illegal immigrants are declining. Regardless they want to come here because even if the US is in bad shape, it is still in better shape than from where they came from. If you want to end illegal immigration you need to help make the original country more appealing.

Because their home is in even worse shape!
Americans complain too much, but then again, not all Americans have the same idealized American lifestyle.

because they have an idealised view of america,
they hear fairy tales of the wonderfull land of the free. They don't get the news about the economic dificulties and the like.

America is still a cultural and economic leader. Also, the opportunities to make a large salary are much higher in America than in Asia or other areas. Chinese and Indian students immigrate to America in waves to study engineering because the potential salary is orders of magnitude more than they can make in their home countries.

They believe the lies we tell them, Why else wouldn't we have a large influx of Greek immigrants if we were the bastion of civilization? It's because it's a fairy tale we tell to people in the third world so our farms and factories could exploit them.

It is nearly a wash at the moment, however. We seem to be gaining as many as we are losing at this point.

Conditions in some countries are so much worse. For that exact reason some Americans need to stop complaining.

it contributes to why we are in the shape we're in. eventually, sending cash money across the borders *will* negatively impact an economy....and as long as that cash is obtainable by "cheap" labor, they will continue to come.

AND, at the risk of sounding arrogant, this is one of the better countries...we *always* have choices if we aren't too lazy to make them.
