What I mean is not just specifics on location, but really seeing each other's faces and expressions, etc., regardless of what type of online interaction-anywhere from talk forums to news boards to shopping and more. No, not Skype either, but more than that; a mandatory face to face ( voice to voice) ID for all online interactions. I doubt it happen because it be too Big Brother.

Would you still use it if it happened?

The Internet isn't anonymous now. It's just difficult 'enough' to ferret out a person's true identity not to make it worth the bother.

First off - Its anonymity is long gone. The simple fact of the matter is that anything you say, upload or download ANYWHERE on the Internet is being tracked and catalogued by servers numbering in the millions. One would have to be truly naive to think that all of our respective "Big Brothers" aren't watching.

I agree. I just wonder why some people aren't more careful with all that about employers scoping out employees social websites like Facebook.

My family is lousy at keeping in touch, but my cousins' kids all keep up with each other on F'book so I can follow along that way. I'd prefer private round-robin e-mails, but if they're ok with FB's security, I'm not going to worry about it.

That is a good point. I do not like arguing through anonymity, but since you never know what you are dealing with...It is not like an argument with someone in front of you who you can judge for yourself if they are crazy or CRAZY.

If somebody were properly motivated (as by a threat), it COULD be done by anyone 'quite easily.' All you gotta have is the IP number and a little smarts.

As far as the authorities go, there is no anonymity on the internet unless you use hacker tools to mask your ip and mac addresses.

Knowing that, I took the decision to abandon any attempts to try...

True. People believe they are, but if they lost even that illusion by having their actual persona required on there, I wonder if that change.

I hope so - the world needs honesty and openness. and we can't ask our governments to do something that we are not prepared to do ourselves.
