My little sister has mild autism. Her opinions count just as much as everyone else's. She prefers vanilla ice cream, she loves pizza, and being tickled, and watching cartoons. She is definitely different, but should be taken just as seriously as anyone else.

It will always depend on what mental state you are in, and how severe of an illness you might have. I don't consider autism an illness, but many others do, and they don't consider what she thinks, even though her logic is often more intelligent than others'.

NO . not at all... I know a very brilliant man that has a mental illness and I value his opinions. Smartest man I know.
Mental illness does not mean ignorance or dumb... Nor even screwy........PLEASE keep in mind there are many forms of Mental illness.... It does affect some people minds to the point of OUT OF IT... then you have to look over what they say.... YOU just have to take into account the severity of the illness......

Only if their mental illness deleteriously impacts their opinions.

This is true. Like when I'm on a manic swing I can become very paranoid and confused. I guess that would happen to anyone who didn't sleep for 6 days! But my illness is what does that to me. Luckily I have it under control ever since being diagnosed with bipolar and I am responding very well to my meds. I haven't had a manic episode in 4 years now. :) And I'm doing well otherwise. Not effected at all really.

No. Their voice and opinion is as loud as anyone else's. I hate when people think they are superior to others.

There are to many thing that make people "mentally ill" these days. Any kind of disability doesn't make anyone inferior to me. I value everyone's opinion even if I don't agree with it.

I consider the value of their opinions from what they've said or written, not that the source has a mental illness.

Awesome answer! Labels are the dumbest thing on the planet used by people that want things easy and black and white. They attack a label and read you off based on that, which is very ignorant.

That would just be stupid, arrogant, and full of ones self. Most of the people that I know with mental illness are on top of their game when it comes to intelligence. Yes, there are ones who are slow but they are human and their opinions count just as much.

This is true. I have bi polar myself, but I agree, it depends on how effected a person is at the time. On what is going on.

Because I know that is not true. For one I am mentally ill myself, with bi polar, but I have it under control and am doing very well. My opinion is not inferior to anyone. Some of the most brilliant ideas come from mentally ill people.
