If I become a professional, instrumental musician, will I be able to hold another job as well?

Between practices and concerts, would I have time to keep a job in another profession as well? I doubt I could make enough to get by solely on a musician's salary. I may be able to get away with it as a freelance writer, journalist, or reporter, or proofreader right? That would bring in some more income, but how about a more well-paid job? Is there anything I could do, as in working for myself, that would pay more while still giving me the time to practice music?
