If an emergency vehicle is going down a freeway with lights and sirens going, but is only going 45 MPH in a 65 mph zone, what do you do?

You!

Note: This is after you pull over and let it initially pass, but then you catch up to it.

Also, for the record, I did stay behind the firetruck. I just asked the question to see what others would do. People are assuming that I'm for speeding around it, but I'm not. Although it did piss me off that it was only going 45 MPH for an emergency. That was my main point I guess

I take off slowly anyways, so I might not even catch up with it. If you did pass it, you would have to stop and pull over again to let it pass, which would make no sense.

If you are legally outrunning an emergency vehicle (you are going 65 in a 65 zone and it isn't catching up) I don't think you have to pull over.

They are trying to figure out where the emergency is. Most likely they were given the wrong location and were attempting to figure out online, by phone, and radio where the communication was broken and where they realy needed to be.

Generally, on highways of 2 or more lanes (interstates, US Highways, Etc), you are only required to move to the right lane. You are only required to pull off the road on local roads, or main streets

As for passing the vehicle after it passed you, well, if there is a passing lane, do what you need to... Lights on or not, staying behind a slow moving vehicle is not only unsafe, but it will cause traffic to be jammed up...

People need to not be in such a rush all the time.... wherever you have to go, it will still be there when you get there. And if you're worried about being late. then leave 10 minutes early. It won't kill you

Never interfer, they could be racing to save someones live or have someone in the car already. You would want everyone to extend that same courtesy to you and your loved ones

Maybe for the situation, how do you know that they didn't just slow down to attend to the person in the ambulance?????

Because I was following them, and the accident was 2 miles ahead

Also it was a fire truck, not an ambulance

So, then why ask the question in the first place if you know the right answer. Go ahead, go in front of the vehicle and get to pay the nice big ticket when you get pulled over, not like I care, you don't live near me so you won't be hurting me or my family. Have fun

If they are not going the speed limit or over it....it is not much of an emergency. I would pass it and keep going the speed limit. If you're going 20 mph faster than the ambulance you would not be in there way anyway. Whether it is wrong or not I don't know.

For an emergency vehicle with the lights flashing, whether it is going 45 or 95, pull to the far right hand lane, and stop until the emergency vehicle passes.

Yes, that's correct, but then after it passes, but going 45 mph and the speed limit is 65 mph what do you do?
